Green Andy Reviews: The Misfits - Legacy of Brutality
Or do they? This 1985 compilation album has been rendered almost redundant by history: initially released as a way to get out the sessions that were originally intended for the STATIC AGE album, plus a few other odds and ends that were laying around at the time. The Misfits album that nobody needs. The biggest strike against this record is that STATIC AGE was eventually released (albeit almost 20 years late), and the remastered versions of those songs, which make up the bulk of this album, are far superior than what shows up here, and in fact this album sounds a bit anemic in comparison. However, it's redeemed by the inclusion of those aforementioned odds and ends, and to this day this album is the only place to get the songs "American Nightmare" and "Who Killed Marilyn?" without paying big bucks for old vinyl singles or the box set. "Who Killed Marilyn?" is actually Glenn Danzig's first solo release, recorded back in 1981 when he was already showing signs of frustration with the band, but it's been considered part of the Misfits' discography ever since this album. So if you're going to be a freaky Misfits completist (and there's a lot of you out there), you're still going to need to pick this up eventually.

And of course, with all this said, it can't be forgotten that just about all of the songs from STATIC AGE are among the greatest compositions in punk rock history, regardless of how they're heard. "T. V. Casualty", "Hybrid Moments", "Some Kinda Hate" and the rest of them are indisputable classics. Plus the album artwork is arguably better here than on the proper STATIC AGE disc. My advice? Get both. If you're already shelling out for a Misfits belt buckle and Zippo lighter and bath towel, what's ten more dollars?.

My favorite Misfits album.
The Misfits got me into punk music (old punk) and remain one of my favorite bands of all time. If you told me the last track "American Nightmare" was an Elvis song and I didn't know any better, I'd believe you.

Give this a spin and you'll be a Fiend for Life
Some of my favorite Misfits songs are on here. I bought this CD before the Static Age album was available. "Static Age", "TV Casualties", "Bullet", "Angelf**k", and "Who killed Marilyn" are staples in every Fiends collection. If you do not have the Static Age album, this is a great album to get. If you already have Static Age, you may still want to pick this up. Fans have said the songs on this album are more raw, it is true. This is what the Misfits sounded like when they got 30 free hours in a studio when they gave up their rights to the 'Blank Records' name. A smart move by Glenn. Otherwise these songs may never have been recorded except for bootlegs at live shows or garage recordings.

The only other thing I can say is, if you spend a lot of time driving and delivering pizzas like I do, this is a great CD to play.

not their best work...
who killed marilyn and amaerican nightmare are so-so songs. was kinda dissappointed with this one in comparison to walk among us and collection 1. . . some of them are just plain bad. he likes to re-hash songs too; notice static age and tv casualty and alot of other songs are thrown around plenty on different albums. i would say for the casual listener pick up collection 1 first (the best in my opinion) and then grab walk among us and static age (mainly for last caress and in the doorway) and you should be good to go.

I remember halloween!
They are the ones who started punk! In fact, LOB is their best album ever. Tthe misfits are an awesome punk band. The main singer is Glenn Danzig, who has a badass voice, probably the most badassed one ever.

FAVORITE SONGS: (in no order)
Static Age
Angelf*ck
TV Casualty
Halloween
Hybrid Moments
