Modest expectations met . If one is inclined towards the scrappy synergy this indie rock act puts out, TFTAI will be a no-brainer addition, but for those not entirely converted to these soft squealers, this abbreviated entry would not be the best starting point.
when Modest Mouse was good.
If you like the perfected, generic rock that comes from the mass media, don't buy this. This takes me back to pre-radio Modest Mouse. But, if you would like to hear a bit of Modest Mouse before they were big and when they sounded more orginal, this is a good bet. .
Short, but great stuff.
The songs are very catchy and well written. I was a little disappointed at how short this was, but it's still got some great material. I got this one after my friend gave me The Moon and Antarctica. I'd recommend that and this album if you like Modest Mouse.
Great album
I definitely recommend it to any Modest Mouse fan branching out past Moon and Antarctica and This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing to Think About. Only 5 of the tracks are actual songs, but of those 5, I could listen to four on repeat for an hour.
Amazing, but not for everyone
If you only like Good news for people who love bad news and Moon and Antarctica, then this isn't for you. This is a wonderful album and it shows us some of this amazing band's diversity, but not everyone will apreciate it. It is much more raw and a lot stranger. If you do like this, then you will probably also like Long drive and Lonesome crowded, which is their best album and my personal favorite album period.
