Fresh and Fun but a little Brief My first instinct is to compare them to Marcy Playground (yeah, I know, WTF?) but it's probably pointless to make comparisons (MP sans electricity?). My first Modest Mouse CD and it's obviously like nothing else you've heard. One thing I will say however is, even though I have not had a chance to hear their first two CDs, I would suggest starting your Mouse collection with something other than this one. This CD, even though it has five bonus tracks exclusive to Japan, still clocks in under 30 minutes! (hence only 3 stars) Now if you consider the price - then ouch! It does however come with the Japanese insert with lyrics in English. Supposedly their first two CDs are somewhat overlong but hey, at least you are getting your money's worth right? :o)
I can't discern the specific bonus tracks as several on the domestic release are untitled so here is the full track listing:
1. Sunspots
2. The Way Down
3. Fruit
4. Dirty Fingernails
5. Scapegoat
6. The Fruit That Ate Itself
7. Way Down
8. Summer
9. Karma's Payment
10. Blue Cadet, Do You Connect?
11. Dukes Up
12. Woodgrain
13. It Always Rains On a Picnic
14. 5,4,3,2,1 . . . Lisp Off
