Prepare for your doom!
" Slow, heavy, depressing, frightening. Doom metal is kind of like what Black Sabbath did with their song "Black Sabbath. "Turn Loose the Swans" is all that. It is a tremendous album and a must for those who want something more than initiate heavy metal. I cannot recommend this one enough.

Oh how dead doom metal is.....
Paradise Lost got lost. Amorphis went pop. Katatonia and Anathema have taken Prozac. And now My Dying Bride went melodeath. The only bands left now are Candlemass, Cathedral, and Draconian. But this isnt about those aforementioned bands, this is about My Dying Bride's epic classic Turn Loose the Swans.

First off, let people know that there is not one fast song on this album. This album is slow, almost death-like slow. It feels like the guitarists are rubbing sandpaper on your face while the violin, keyboards, and drums lull you into a deep trance, which is quickly ended as soon as the singer unleashes his vicious snarl.

This album is seen as a landmark in the devolopment of doom-death, and I cant disagree more.

If you enjoyed this also try Paradise Lost's Gothic and my new favorite album Celtic Frost's Monotheist.

Doom/death classic
I played both albums a lot initially, but grew tired of them and then put them aside for many years. I bought this album in autumn 1993, right at the time when Icon by Paradise Lost came out. I even sold my copy of Turn Loose The Swans (and Icon) to a friend of mine. I repurchased both albums a couple of years ago and listen to them regularly again. I have never become a real My Dying Bride fan; I found the songs dragging on too long and I didn't like the clean vocals of Aaron (his death grunt is great). But looking back, this album has become one of the leading in the genre and the best My Dying Bride album I have heard. Sear Me 93 and Black God are ok, but the metal tracks make this album the gothic/doom/death classic that it is. Best songs are Your River, The Crown Of Sympathy and the title track. .

A great doom/gothic album
At first I was expecting something a bit more along the lines of Shape of Despair(my favorite funeral doom band), but after I got over that I was able to fully enjoy every song on here. Although this is my first taste of My Dying Bride, I have heard plenty of other doom, funeral doom, gothic bands and I must say that MDB does a great job on this cd. I was able to get the latest version which includes several bonus tracks and those are pretty good as well but not as great as the original songs on the cd. Overall, this album is worth picking up if your a fan of gothic or doom music as you will surely not be disappointed.

Best Album
the gothic that starts the music and the metal. My Dyings Bride's Turn Lose the Swans would have to be their best album. Its one of the best ones. With songs such as "Black God" and "Turn Lose The Swans". . . If you like gothic and metal music you would like this one.
