takes a few listens to win you over
this band can do no wrong in my eyes. they've been in my top 10 favorite bands list for a long time. I've followed them since 93 when turn loose the swans( masterpiece!) came out. Upon my initial listen, I felt disappointed and underwhelmed with this release. Given that it took them three years to release it, my first impression was that it seemed uninspired and lacking. With repeated listens, I warmed up to it. . and realized this happens with everything they release. I initially thought The Angel and The Dark River sucked. . now I consider it an epic doom album that has not been surpassed. Each album is unique and artistic in it's own right. . and each is beautiful and morose. While it may not be the heaviest or most creative of their discography. . it's quality work. This band has matured and aged. . and I'm glad they're still around. Not immediately accessible but slowly addictive.
