I'm UPSET they miss a song in my copy!!! I ordered this CD because I lost my original copy in a party. I'm kind of upset. This is one of my favorite records EVER. And I one of the songs I like most is the bonus track "Silent Fighting". In my new CD after Robot I was expecting this song, but somehow is missing in my copy!!!, it goes directly to Spooky!!!. Although is printed in the booklet as a bones track included it is not on my copy!!!.
The datedness effect
The songwriting is a mild step up from the standardized alterna-pop melodies of Hi/Lo, but far less than initially remembered; unlike Nada Surf's following refinement in Let Go, the vast majority of PE won't stand any test of time. 2 1/2
While not as generic as their debut, ironically even that album had a little more energy in places. .
"We Were Never... So Together"
Definately Nada Surf's zenith album. First off, make sure you get The Proximity Effect with the bonus tracks for the sake of the song "Spooky". It is unquestionably faster to name the low points of the album then all of the highlights. I usually skip the tracks "Disspossesion" and "Silent Fighting". . . that's it! If you get a Nada Surf album make this one it.
I can tell in a number of newer bands that they have used this group as a monument with this particular album as obvious inspiration. To me this album defines the phenomenal way indie rock closed out the 90's. .
Best of thier carreer
They are at the peak of musical creativity and sense of pop. For me, The Proximity Effect is the best album of Nada Surf. I have to admit that their songs are still fresh even though I repeated playing it again and again. This is a MUST have if you are Nada Surf fan.
This Album has it All
As the title suggests, this is an one of the best "complete, cohesive" albums I've listened to. The Proximity Effect was the soundtrack to my freshmen year in college and has remained in my music rotation since then. From driving rock (Hyperspace, Firecracker, Slow Down) to the introspective (Troublemaker, 80 Windows) to sublime songs that arrest you on the first listen (Bacardi, Spooky, Robot). It will make you shake you a**, bob your head and most of all sing along with a smile on your face. .
