Perfect power pop" Until you hear the music, lyrics like "To find someone you love/You gotta be someone you love" and "Always love/Hate will get you every time" might sound simplistic and even silly. I can't think of an album with a better 1-2-3 opening sequence than "The Weight Is A Gift. But listen to Nada Surf playing their brains out and rockin' like nobody's business, and I dare you not to get up and shake your tailfeathers. But that's not to say the rest of the album is lackluster, because this album is excellent all the way through. Overall, it rocks much harder than "Let Go," but even the ballad "Your Legs Grow" is very moving. Another highlight is "Blankest Year," the kind of party starter that will make your downstairs neighbors complain. In my opinion, this is Nada Surf's best album.
Melancholy, Hope, & Life Woven Into A Great Album
Those factors seem to separate me a bit I would say. When I see an album with over a dozen reviews I think what can I add? My two cents I guess! In a way perhaps I am unique for a couple of reasons: I am almost 49 years old and I never listened to this band prior to this album.
This is one great album if you like emotional intelligent power pop (cringe). It has the kind of melody that makes it very likeable. The lyrics make you think as you wonder both what they mean to the authors and how you personalize them to your experiences. I immediately like the first four tracks and now that I have listened more times I must say the whole album grows equally on me.
This is kind of like the album I wished that the Posies has stayed together and made. If you like "Always Love", the third cut which I guess was the cut that got airplay you absolutely owe it to yourself to get the whole album since it only gets better in my opionion.
There is not enough of this kind of pop that has equal measures of intelligence, emotion, and melody. Plus, Nada Surf rocks out too! I love it and now am going through their other albums. Recommended and encouraged!.
Excellent!
Unlike some bands, all their songs do not sound the same. This is an excellent CD! The first I've purchased by Nada Surf, and I really like their music. Different music, and every song is good!
.
addicting!
There is something magical about those sweet melodic vocals seamlessly woven in with the catchy, yet original rock beats. This album is the kind of album that is so addicting that for three months, I listened to nothing else. When I first bought this album from the record store, the guy working behind the counter said this even better than the last album and I said NO WAY!!! Well, lets just say he was beyond right. As much as I enjoyed Let Go, this album easily trumped it. This album is the type of album that now reminds me of a three month period of my life. When I listen to this album, I can feel and smell the winter of 2006 when I first bought it. My favorite song hands down is "Blankest Year. " .
Oh, sweet satisfaction
It flows perfectly and there isn't one song I wouldn't consider "my favorite. Arguably the greatest Nada Surf album, this compilation is completely cohesive. " It's easy to break into - no songs that one could do without. This is worth the purchase!.
