SAVE YOUR MONEY!! What a disappointment! It is so weak in so many ways. I love Willie Nelson and I love Leon Russell, so naturally, I was very excited to see a duet album come out. The album should've been called:" WILLIE OVER SINGS LEON ON EVERY TRACK. " That is exactly the case friends. Willie's voice dominates every song with only a shadow of another male voice in the background that is so soft, you can't tell whose voice it is. Leon deserves better than that! The arrangements are awful as well with a sort of jazzy/Texas swing beat on the livelier songs that seems to compete with Willie's voice for attention, rather than complimenting him. Forget Leon, you can't even tell he's contributing anything. The slower melodies like Danny Boy are slowed down to a boring, almost agonizing tempo again with Willie crooning pretty much alone. When I saw the line up of songs, I was intrigued, as many of them are favorites of mine. But, even though I love Willie's voice, he should have left most of these alone. This album is a monumental waste of time & money. Be sure you listen to the samples before deciding whether or not to purchase.
Just my opinion
If your a fan of either you'll be very happy with this one. Definitely worth the price of admission.
awful
2 fine musicians mailed it in for this one. Over-produced crapola, suitable for Vegas only. .
Great People; excellant tunes
As for Willie Nelson of course everyone not living in a cave somewhere is well familiar with the myriad of songs he's written and certainly the many he's recorded. Fine older country standards preformed by two "old hands" at the throttle. Leons reputation should also at least be in the back of any ones mind that's over 30 or so, from his early career through his association with Joe Cocker and still playing that backyard size piano as backup with various notable bands. All and all I consider the working together of two such musical greats an absolute credit to the rather crass and certainly fickle music industry a hit of large proportions. .
Road classic from 1979
This is great for listening while rolling down the highway. When this was first released, I found myself on a long summer road trip through several states, and my cassette copy got extensive play. Both Willie and Leon are in great form. This CD was apparently out of print for a while, but it's back and at a bargain price. This album is great fun, showcases the many talents of Leon Russell, and Willie's voice is at it's best. You can't go wrong. Standouts: "Trouble In Mind", "Danny Boy", "Summertime", "Stormy Weather", "One For My Baby And One More For The Road". .
