New Found GLORIOUS I was relieved NFG returned to their old roots, although I did like Coming Home, Id much rather them sound like this. I was extremely impressed with Not Without A Fight. I was skeptical after listening to their last record, but took a chance and picked this album up. AMAZING. There were a couple tracks that were sort of dull, but hey, what album doesnt have songs like that? Overall, I think this album was well worth buying, no regrets. Listen to Dont let her pull down and Ill never love again.
Not quite what I expected....
I was stoked that everybody really liked NFG's new album. So, I always read the reviews here on Amazon before buying an album. I bought it, listened to it several times, and I'm a bit disapointed. I think the people that wrote a review here are die-hard NFG fans and would have given them 5 stars no matter what.
I was looking for more of the same from thier previous album "Coming Home". That album was so catchy and every song IMO was a hit. Every song on the new album run together and sound the same. No song sticks out in my mind.
If you are either a die-hard or old school NFG fan then you will enjoy this album. If you really liked "Coming Home" and are looking for more of the same, then you will be disapointed.
Musically great, but suffers the NFG lyrical curse
Amidst the reviews with differentiating opinions, mine will probably be the most. . well, different. When I first got the album, I listened to it in its entirety. I think that "Not Without A Fight" shows the band still playing with the energy and charisma of a band who just released their first album. The pounding drums, the passionate singing, the endless amount of guitar riffs, this is all strong stuff for the album.
So what makes "Not Without A Fight" get a four-star rating instead of a five? Well, the album would very well deserve a five-star rating, but honestly, the negative lyrics throughout pull it down. Seriously, we have a relationship on thin ice in "Right Where We Left Off" and "Don't Let This Be The End", loss of friendship in "Listen to Your Friends" and emotional hopelessness on "I'll Never Love".
Come on guys, the music's fist-pumping and energetic, so why do the lyrics have to be so down? I do know that Jordan and Chad both got divorces before this album was recorded and released, so that explains a lot. However, just because they wrote lyrics to get emotional strain off their chest DOES NOT mean they need to use it. The only semi-positive song on the album is "Truck Stop Blues", and even that isn't as feel-good as a song such as Blink-182's "All The Small Things". Just an example.
Well, the endless amount of melodic yet punky guitar riffs are enough to give this album four stars. I just wish the lyrics weren't always so negative. Let's hope that things go better before their next release so everything will be just about perfect. Overall, this is still a good album that you should check out, if only for the music, which is still great! Thanks for the time, and peace.
Yes!
I'm going to keep this short and sweet. .
I haven't been able to listen to much NFG since Catalyst. I simply did not like some of the music they were making recently. . . until now. I listened to this album and smiled the whole time. I enjoyed every song. . . on the first listen, and that's rare.
Good job, NFG! Thank you!.
Solid NFG
If you like NFG then you will be sure to like this album. This is not their best album but it is still classic NFG. They don't change their style a whole lot so it is always something you can enjoy!!!!!.
