"Substance" and "Singles" are better
The sheer number of compilations they've released since 1994 means most of them are interchangable, and the release of the more complete 'Singles' makes all of the former collections obsolete. This was the album that got me into New Order in the late 90's, but I can't really recommend it now.

'The Best Of New Order' collects most of the band's poppier singles from 1983-1993. Most of the important songs are present, but in the radio-edit 7" mixes, which can't hold a candle to the extended 12" versions from 'Substance'. The album presents New Order as a pop/rock band rather than the innovative electronic/dance band they were. Worst of all, none of the band's songs from before 1983 are present; not including 'Ceremony' and 'Temptation' is almost unforgivable. Other songs like 'Subculture' are also missing, and probably deserve to be here more than 'Ruined In A Day' or 'Vanishing Point', for example.

It does contain 'Touched By The Hand Of God' and 'World In Motion', which can be difficult to get on other collections. But considering nearly every song here is present on 'Singles', this album is not really worth buying. .

good songs, bad mixes
All the melodies are there, but the CD itself quickly fell out of rotation. In name, this CD has all the big hits of New Orders 80s-90s heyday. I think the big problem is that the picked some very dry mixes of the popular songs in order to retain space for more of the 'moderately popular' songs. The end result is a lot of music that starts to pique the ears, but remains unsatisfying. I would have much rather seen them pick some better mixes of the songs - preferably using the 12" remixes where they would really shine. This would force out some of the secondary songs, but would leave much better versions of what remains.

A marvelous, albeit somewhat bumpy retrospective from 1981-1993.
Yet I have really enjoyed the "Best of New Order" which I refer to as the Sky Blue Palette version due to the cover artwork to differentiate it from the "International" and "Singles" compilations that came out much later. I have been rather behind on New Order since long-awaited release of "Get Ready" which I thought was a spectacular return. Though I have yet to listen to them, I feel perfectly content with this older collection. The CD goes from the early days with tracks like the New Wave "Dreams Never End", to "Love Vigilantes", all the way through a rather botched version of "True Faith-94", to the excellent triad of Regret, World, and Ruined In a Day. Included is a marvelous bonus track called "World in Motion" for the 1990 World Cup in England. Some other tracks are a watered-down version of Blue Monday, but compensated with a wonderful version of their 1987 B-Side "1963" which I think is just as great as the original. While "Singles" and "International" might have 'buried' this "Best of New Order" CD since it's release, you can't go wrong with this one. I guarantee it. .

Love it
It is a great intro to New Order. This is the first and only New Order album I own and I love it! I don't know what I did without it! If you tend towrds 80's bands like Depeche Mode, Erasure, Pet Shop Boys, you will love this. And unless you have been living in a cave it does have easily identifiable hits like Blue Monday and Bizzare Love Triangle. Highly recomended for the euro-new-wave lover, but may not be for the the seasoned New Order fan.

Better than the UK Version
Gone are the tracks found on Substance and in come the opening tracks from new orders first 3 albums + Lets Go(Nothing for me) a barnstormer of a track which I believe is only available on here or on the Retro box set. All tracks are classics in their own way a must have for any diehard New order fan as the track listing differs from the UK version. All in all a fine add on to your collection.
