Fantastic New Order Album Get Ready was clearly more guitar heavy but with WFTSC they used a nice mix of guitar and electronics. After 2001's comeback album Get Ready, the boys from Manchester took four years to release their follow-up Waiting for the Sirens' Call. Highlights for me are Krafty (personal top five all time NO song), Jetstream (great song!), WFTSC (just a wonderful tune with usual bass magic from Hooky), and Morning, Night & Day.
Not sure if this will be their final album. As of now Barney and Hooky are not speaking to each other but if it is this album ends their illustrious career on a high note.
Now let's hope they finally get their due and are elected into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. It's shameful that electronic music has not been recognized by the hall. It's high time that they do! This band is legendary and has inspired so many bands that are popular today.
Don't wait any longer!
It is distinctively New Order in style retaining characteristic elements from throughout the group's long and important career - all tracks are excellent but I'd especially recommend the first three plus "Turn". This album is great listening from beginning to end. The chord changes are so seamless, the compositions so perfect, that as a listener I experienced disbelief that such a masterpiece is not more widely recognized. I was very pleasantly surprised by this album - it's now my favorite New Order album, with an edge over Republic and Get Ready, my previous preferences. I listen to 'Siren' several times a week and it doesn't get old. If you like New Order then I doubt you'll be disappointed by this one. If you've never listened to New Order this would be a really superb introduction.
Smashing
Even the inclusion of Billy Corgan wasn't enough to pique my interest, 'cause the music didn't seem to be as good as their old stuff. I'd drifted away from New Order in the past decade or so. I finally got around to checking out this album a couple of months ago, and was blown away. It's a terrific collection of songs that on any other album would be highlights. Catchy, clever, compulsive, and classic - and that's just the compliments beginning with 'C'. Great stuff.
Greatest Album since Beatles White Album
I also have it in my MP3 player. It is now November 2006 and I still can't take it out of my deck. I went to the Concert in May 2005 and believe the band keeps getting better and better. I await their next album. Buy this one though.
