"Night Ranger" sounds even better than before!
To avoid any confusion or skepticism it must be pointed out that this is an official band release issued by "Frontiers Records" with excellent audio and layout quality. This is "Night Ranger" caught live in Tokyo, Japan during the Asian summer tour of 2007.
As Expected the show captured in this release was in support of their latest studio album "Hole in the Sun" and thus set to include certain new songs.
Now this album is an extremely interesting live offering as it portrays a new twin guitar combination. Sure Brad Gillis (ex "Ozzy Osbourne") is an extremely competent guitar player but how does he fair against fearless guitar mercenary Reb Beach ("Winger", ex"Dokken", "Whitesnake")?
Well this is not a power struggle. Gillis plays most of the lead guitar parts while Beach lays rhythm parts, second guitar melodies and a number of solos which usually close the songs. The styles of Reb and Brad are incredibly similar (Reb admits that his extraordinary whammy bar technique was based on Gillis's pattern); and this makes all the difference when the twin guitar melodies and harmonic fills kick in. Reb follows every song to the note without alienating parts or rearranging solos etc; so you can rest assured that the original "Night Ranger" sound is preserved.

One has to admit that there are certain things that could have been arranged differently. Keagey's drums could have been more up front in the mix making this a more aggressive record while Gillis's guitar coming from the left speaker is not as loud as Reb's.

Overall a very good live album that delivers the authentic "Night Ranger" sound backed by probably the best line up (technique wise) the band has ever demonstrated.
