Seminal on all levels pertaining to, containing, or consisting of semen. As defined by the dictionary, seminal means: 1. 2. Botany. of or pertaining to seed.
3. having possibilities of future development. 4. highly original and influencing the development of future events: a seminal artist; seminal ideas.
The Downward Spiral is seminal on all those levels, because listening to closer and not wanting to do stuff like an animal is pretty impossible. In the seed sense of the word, you could hear the greatness in Pretty Hate Machine, but it wasn't until this album that we could truly grasp how great Trent Reznor could be at his best and most self hating and lascivious. Third off, the possibilities with every NIN outing are endless and though you know the mojo behind the magic, you can't helped being wowed by the tricks. Lastly, this album is seminal because it is groundbreaking, terribly beautiful and completely influential. Buy this album or regret missing on one of the best albums ever. as a bonus, you get an extra disc chock full of remixes and unreleased tracks that are worth your dollar. .
Downward Spiral Deluxe SACD
The 5. I'd forgotten how good this album is. 1 multichannel version is mixed beautifully and literally puts you in the middle of the music. This is the best rock SACD out there next to Dark Side don't hesitate to buy it.
Classic 90s At Its Best
If you can't categorize it, who cares? It's still a killer album. This album is the epitamy of 90s rock/ nu-rock/ acid rock era.
The spirit of the music transports and would actually be good for meditating (if you want to really GO places while meditating) or even while on drugs. It is that multi-dimensional. The sexy bass, the slow layered drums, the weird sound effects, and the sultry voice of Mr Trent Reznor can really perk the ear and make you zero in on their talents.
This is by far the best of their albums. I'm not a fan of the new stuff because it seems so synthesized, but. . . Downward Spiral is a cd that I cannot get enough of. I've been listening to it for over 10 years and it still has the ability to stop me in my tracks and make me tune in, carrying me across the wires of my mind.
Highly highly reccommend to fans of Manson, Korn, Pumpkins, Deftones, Daft Punk, Coheed & Cambria, and even some of the System fans.
You Get Me Closer To God
Trent manages to change with each album and deliver a new concept and message with each one. This has got to be one of my favorite NIN albums.
The first disc is the classic album with all of your favorites. My personal favorites are "Ruiner", "March of the Pigs", and "A Warm Place".
This album is a nice mix of his rock and industrial style. It also has some unadulterated guitar which you almost never hear in his music. The second disc is great as well. It has instrumental pieces and a couple of extra songs. My favorite part though has got to be the songs that are remixed. I have loved hearing the different ways songs like "Closer" and "Ruiner" can be portrayed. Highly recommend this album for any NIN fan.
Best album in my collection
I was just introduced to NIN and can't get enough of their genious music. I am so mesmorized by this collection of NIN's songs are played almost daily on my ipod at work to help pass the day. A definite must have to add to your collection.
