Customer Review Not the Cobain Nirvana, but the 1960s Group. It is a "concept" album, or, as they call it, a "science fiction pantomime". This is the great first album by the 1960s group Nirvana. This reissue offers both the mono and stereo versions, plus some extra b-sides, including the excellent "Feelin' Shattered". When we think of concept albums of the 1960s, we of course think of Sgt. Peppers and Tommy. Those that have dug a little further perhaps also think of the fabulous "The Kinks are the Village Green Preservation Society" or their follow-up, "Arthur". Of course there is the Rolling Stones "On Their Satanic Majesty's Request". Furthermore, there is the Small Faces "Ogden's Nut Gone Flake" and the Pretty Things "S. F. Sorrow". Perhaps the 60s Nirvana would not receive as much notice, like this reissue, if it hadn't been for the Cobain Nirvana, but, regardless of that, there is a certain childish naivete to this record that makes it a classic in its own. (I have described it to people not unlike listening to one of those holiday stop-motion puppet cartoons, like Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer, but if it was a science-fiction stop motion cartoon along the lines of Loderunner. ) Not that the arrangements or musicianship on the record is amateurish, which it is not, it is the simple themes of the songs that put it in this category. As a result, some have called it pre twee-pop, and I can perhaps see that.
