"We are the busters of any G-H-O-S-T"
Nonetheless, this is a fun CD. Like the film itself, the song score of "Ghostbusters II" was not quite up to the standard of the original film. Whereas every track on the "Ghostbusters" soundtrack is heard in the film (even if only for two seconds), the "Ghostbusters II" CD showcases some songs composed for the film but omitted from the final cut. Most amazing is that director Ivan Reitman had the chutzpah to commission a song from the great Elton John -- the rollicking "Love is a Cannibal" -- and not use it in his movie!

Also unlike the first soundtrack album, "Ghostbusters II" features no excerpts from the incidental music score, instead focusing entirely on songs. While Randy Edelman's score is enjoyable, it is far inferior to Elmer Bernstein's for the first film, so its absence from the CD feels like no great loss.

While my favorite song in the film was "Spirit" (which features the best of the soundtrack's three separate retellings of the film's storyline in rap), my favorite song on the album is "Flip City", which is heard to much better advantage than in the film. Ironically, its lyrics can be interpreted as a (clearly coincidental) comment on the Egon-Janine-Louis triangle suggested by this movie.

One of the very best soundtracks around! Awesome!
It helps me relive that first time watching it in the theaters. Listening to this music from the wonderful movie brings me back to that happier time in my life, 1989, with fewer cares, etc. That is, when I'm not actually watching the DVD at home. But there is something about the music in this CD. It really is awesome! My favorites are "On Our Own" (of course!), "We're Back", "Flip City" and "Higher and Higher. " This is truly some of the best music for any movie, any time, IMO. If you are still a Ghostbusters fan (as I continue to be and always will), then you really must get this CD for your collection. It is well worth the money spent, however you can get it, wherever you can find it (the CD, that is). Who ya gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS! :).

Awesome in every way!
As I listen to each song, I am taken back in memory to the theater as I watched the movie for the very first time. This CD really rocks - like no other soundtrack. I purchased Ghostbusters 1 and Ghostbusters 2 on DVD, replacing the VHS versions. Now, I did the same with the soundtrack, from cassettes (remember those? hehe) to the CD versions. I've not been disappointed with any of them. Excellent sound quality and convenience - to play B. Brown's "On Our Own" in Repeat mode ;) I could - and often do - listen to that one track over and over, along with "We're Back" and "Higher and Higher" and, of course, "Flip City" but they really are all good -- well worth the money, whatever it costs you! No Ghostbusters fan's library or shelf is complete without at least this CD, but you really have to get all of them.
;).
