Best Oldfield,for me at least
I ve heard a lot of Mike Oldfield recordings, and still i think this is the best,it takes you to a magic ride, wind chimes is almost a symphony,i dont think the other tracks are that good, but it s still very good music, this is the 2nd time i bought this cd.
A Blend between Pop & Instrumental Music
For The Wind Chimes is such a nice piece of long Instrumental music. A real nice album, the songs Islands and Magic Touch are very good, the others are well put. As an album is the best of the Oldfield 80's.
North Point
The only cut in this album that I like is "North Point," which I REALLY like.
Islands (Only the first 2 tracks).
The Wind Chimes sounds Fresh and Full of Power and Happiness. The Wind Chimes (Parts 1 & 2) from the Islands album are one of the BEST Mike Olfield works. Sure, Mike Oldfield has a lot of master pieces like Tubular Bells (I, II, III and Millenium), The Songs of a Distant Earth, Amarok, Crisis, QE2, and Five Miles Out. But, if you hear The Wind Chimes (Parts 1&2) carefully you will get looped inmediatly playing it and playing it all over again and again and again. . . It is too sad they (Parts 1&2) only lasts almost 22 minutes. At the end you keep thinking "Man, these tracks were really good to end too soon". You will agree with me this is a Master-Piece very well constructed and performed. It will refresh your mind and your soul. Its pure magic. Enjoy. (No comments for the last 5 tracks. Well, tack #5-"North Point" can be rated as good).
We Are Islands, But Never Too Far...
It`s sincere and interesting. Well, it`s not the best album by Mike, but you should listen to it. I wouldn`t tell you about epic instrumental "Wind Chimes". Like it or not - it depends on your mood.
As for me, I like the songs. Most of all "North Point". Sad, clear, sincere song (vocals by Anita Hegerland). Landscape, not the song. Album "Voyager" in miniature. One of the best songs by Mike. Good pop track "Islands" with emotional dramatic singing by Bonnie Tyler. Jolly song "Flying Start" (vocals by Kevin Ayeres - "Shadow on the Wall"). Track "The Time Has Come" interesting because it is a kind of mix between music by Mike and Michael Cretu ("Enigma" himself), who co-prodused this song. There`s no Gregorian chants, but it`s interesting.
To be true, how many times you could listen to "Tubular Bells" or "Amarok"? By the way, you have to find an hour to spend it with this music. Sometimes it`s hard in our everyday life. But to find 20 minutes to listen to beautiful songs from "Islands" - it`s easy. And you would return to them.
The worst mistake of Mike`s fans - to listen not to the music, but to the style. If it`s the 80s - it`bad, if it`s the 70s - it`s good. . . What about the music? Briney Spears also a pop, but could you find something common between songs of "Islands" and "Oops, I Did Again"? No.
If you want real good Celtic pop folk - listen to Shelley Phillips or Orison.
