Ok...not great....
If you wanted more of "February Son" you won't find much of it here. This is a good album but there is nothing special here at all. The changing melodies found throughout "February Son" are not found on this album, just hard rock. Which, while good, doesn't do justice to the bands talent. .

Dont want to say goodby
A real tragedy, the band was real unique and had an ear for excellent music. Unfortunatly soon after the release of "Joyride," Oleander quickly split. On to the review. . . The band took a slight turn with this record, nothing to steep. Just more nu-grunge laden tracks instead of its "ELO" touches from unwind. Either way songwritting is rich, along with production and some great artistic expression. Tracks have some real great, though short lived solors in drums and guitar. The ballads have simple yet nice string additions. All tracks are simply awsome though the masterpiece "Runaway Train" in the shadow of say "November Rain" should have made mad airwaves time. What a travesty - that simply would have given the band arena fan sizes. N E Ways - buy this album. Ive never played it for anyone who didn't enjoy it from first to last track who is a great rock fan at heart.

Not Just Captivating, but also real good
Their CDs are progressively better, and I adore all 3 progressively more. I have much praise for this GRUNGE record made by the great Oleander. I mean that I love all 3 albums but I love this the most for being most complete and cutthroat, the second album Unwind second for being least complete/least cutthroat/second most grunge/most inspired/most emotional/most captivating/best songwriting, and the first album February Son for being second most complete/second most cutthroat/not really that grunge if you really know what grunge is/occasionally inspired/emotional/captivating.

I don't usually rate the tracks, but:
1. HANDS OFF THE WHEEL - not captivating, grunginating
2. DON'T BREAK MY FALL - not captivating, grunginating
3. FOUNTAIN & VINE - Greatness, found their grunge, different vox good
4. 30 60 90 - not captivating, grunginating
5. RAINY DAY - not captivating, grunginating
6. OFF & ON - not captivating, grunginating
7. BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME - not captivating, grunginating
8. JOYRIDE - killer killer song, what a vocal performance again here
9. KING OF GOOD INTENTIONS - I really like this song a tone, amazing vox
10. LEAVE IT ALL BEHIND - not captivating, grunginating
11. RUNAWAY TRAIN - not captivating, grunginating

What an interesting album!

Tell me what you think,
show me what you got.
