Perhaps they should of included a driver.....
Alas, they were just playing the hip journo card in case this mob flowered into a success. Unleashed in 1995 when nobody knew how long grunge would hold on for and was wondering what the next step for metal would be, Orange 9mm was on a winner with this album, at least in terms of the critics saying nice things about them.

So that aside what do a band called Orange 9mm actually sound like? Well most of the dozen tracks sound the same just with the lyrics changed every three minutes. Industrially treated vox greet the listener laid over some heavy, if samey, riffing. The drums intrude painfully with their hollow thump though perhaps because of this, make the most lasting impression. They are certainly played loud and proud.

They lyrics of this semi hardcore industrial punk blend are generally downcast. That's not a criticism, just an observation. Overall the band do know enough to slow down on a few occasions to give the listener some respite from their full on assault and the vocals aren't industrialised on every track which gives a little versatility.

In the final analysis this is not a sub genre with much going for it. Stunted musically and demanding next to nothing from the vocalist, it's also not overly mobile. Further, the band come across as angsty college boys to whom the worst that's ever happened is for dad to refuse to hand over the keys to the SUV. Perhaps for hardcore archivists.

A Must Have
This band made a massive buzz on their live show playing this material and to this day i belive it was one of the top 2-3 performances ive seen by any band. If you didnt get the chance to catch this band live on the warp tour around 96, you missed out. This and the first Deftone album were a tremendous one two punch for hardcore fans in those days.

Anyone remotely into hardcore music should have this album in their collection. Its a jaw dropping album that is stellar from the first track to the last.

Sadly this band peaked and fell with this first album. The band made drastic member changes and were never the same. Ive wondered what happend to the guitarist and bassist after this album since they laid some fat blood pumping music, that was severly lacking from everything O9mm did from this point on. Chaka's lyrics and delivery could only carry the band so far, and frankly without the quality music behind him they just fell off the map as soon as they arrived.

But if you want to go back to 96-97 and hear one of hardcores best efforts, this is for you.

A must have for fans of heavy music. .

It's Quicksand and Rage Against The Machine!!!!!!
P's or albums! I know alot of people aren't going to agree with my definition of the band or album. This album has got so much raw power and energy!More than any other of their E. But, I really think it sounds like the bastard child of Quicksand and Rage Against The Machine! Both of which are really good bands. I would like to see Chaka and Zach go toe to toe in some fisticuffs! That would be cool! Who would win?.
