Guilty Pleasures
I collected their 45's (that's a vinyl record kiddies) and a friend of mine gathered up their LP's. Okay, let's just skip past the "why would anybody even buy this" comment and admit, if you are reading this far, you like nostalgia just as much as the rest of us sentimentalists. All in all this is a great package. Research shows that every track is here. Note my wording, not every LP is here. This repackaged set includes every track through the addition of "bonus" cuts on each CD. For example, 1974's "Skybird" is not here but the tracks from it are included as bouns tracks. So that being said in addition to the hits, "Candida", "Knock Three Times" and the immortal "Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round The Ole Oak Tree" (I still hear this song in my head everytime I see a yellow ribbon car magnet) as well as all the other hits that charted, there are some timeless gems of other songs that only made it as "B" sides. "Freedom For The Stallion" rings with the harmonies that Toussaint intended and "Easy Evil" a minor hit for John Kay after he left Steppenwolf, and written by Alan O'Day who gave us "Undercover Angel" [[ASIN:B000CA9P86 Undercover Angel ]]in 1977, Evil has been done by the likes of everyone from Captain and Tennile to Sugarloaf [[ASIN:B000000D5J The Best of Sugarloaf]] and is nicely done here. A great song that is hard to mess up. Also the reworking of Runaway/Happy Together and the Tony Orlando twist on Chicago's "Happy Man" [[ASIN:B00006LJ6X Chicago VII]] are bright spots worthy of being added to any serious CD Collection. Also the under $40 price tag at the time, made me jump at the chance to purchase. No Regrets. .

The Ultimate Collection
Do you know how crazy it was to anticipate this? How insane it was to see it in the stores and how giddy with excitement I was to finally bring it home? I have waited, prayed and wrote in so many times to have these released and then they go and do it in a BIG WAY. for the ultimate fan. The packaging, the mastering and the bonus tracks. I can't thank the powers that be, enough. If you don't own this, you need to tie a yellow ribbon around your neck and tighten it until you remember to go pick it up or better yet, ask Santa to place it under your tree. Matter of fact, get EVERYTHING by them, this collection, the Christmas CD and the DVD boxed set. You'll be glad you did.

the Ultimate Collection
One way or another ,on every hits collection some of the groups best tracks get left off, usually the electra catalogue, but now ,all the songs are here, every song, every hit, every b side. there have been a few greatest hits cds over the years but none of them have come close to capturing the essence of TONY ORLANDO AND DAWN, . . . . . Needless to say this set is long overdue! I would have thought that Arista would have issued a set along ago,. . . especially during the groups 1988 reunion tour. AS a matter of fact ,a tour that was so successful that it started as a 5 week run and lasted 4 years! But,the fans would have to wait until 2005 to get this box set. now of course there is a big difference here listening to these tracks on cd for the first time rather than my old record player>i am hearing sounds that i never heard before. I dont think the group really got its just dues, mostly because the group never escaped their teeny bopper image but when they did ,it was that of a tv group . . . . . and tony was never one to do his own PR! Case in point, when MIDNIGHT LOVE AFFAIR was released in 1976,the group never performed it live ,. . never! the song did reach #15 ac, but. in the pop world the song was overlooked. If you want just the singles, pick up THE ESSENTIAL COLLECTION,but if you want a more in depth overview of the groups career, you need to check out this collection. this cd set is proof that these three entertainers where 3 of the best. one of the top 70s groups with over 40 million records and 4 gold lps and 2 platinum. not bad for a tv group!this set shows they where much more. MY only fault with this collection was in some of the liner notes. i did expect a little more in depth info on some of the records and lp tracks but none was given>????there are plenty to listen to including rare tracks such as SPARK OF LOVE IS KINDLIN, and the groups last single SING.
