Tie Your Yellow Ribbon Round Your Old Oak Tree It debuted March 17th, 1973 and it was No. This is the album that features the all time hit"Tie A Yellow Ribbon". #1 on the Billboard Charts for 4 weeks, but a total of 17 weeks on the charts. They sang this song at the Cotton Bowl. This became there signature song and a song for homecoming and freedom. "Runaway/Happy Together" charted at#79, the week of February, 1972. Tony,Telma and Joyce do wonderful vocals on this tune. Freedom For The Stallion is a great song and is shared by the great vocals of Tony/Dawn. Other great vocals are shared on the LP are Jolie, When We All Sang Along,Lazy Susan. Tony does some great vocals on Your A Lady(a song that want to make women swoon)(It charted at #70)When A Clown Breaks Down,I Can't Believe How Much I Love You. Joyce does beautiful job on Easy Evil and Telma does a great solo on I Don't Know You Any More. These two ladies have beautiful voices. The bonus tracks that are inluced on this cd are wonderful as well. Dance To The Music was a song off the Skybird album and Tony/Dawn do some great vocals on this tune. Spark of Love is Kindlin was on the b-side of a single and should have been a hit itself. Love the One the One Your With is a great song too. Don't Act Like A Baby is a great tune too. This is a must have for any Tony Orlando and Dawn fan.
tie a yellow ribbon round this cd the lp ,now ,finally, being released on cd for the first time ever gets a deluxe treatment here with some bonus tracks including the very rare but fan favorite track A SPARK OF LOVE IS KINDLIN which was a b side to GYPSY ROSE in 1973. this was the first lp i bought in 1973,as a matter of fact ,i got it for chritmas and it is still one of my favorite lps and i still play it today after some 30 years. another gem is a lost single and b side ,VAYA CON DIOS/DONT ACT LIKE A BABY,which was deletted from the lp at the last minute. . . most likey to include the groups new single and the last song recorded for this lp,TIE A YELLOW RIBBON . which, need i say was the giggest selling song of 1973,got the group 2 american music awards and a grammy nomination. the new cd kicks off with one of the best songs on the lp,FREEDOM FOR THE STALLION and the set is filled with some stunning vocals and wonderful harmonies. Joyce Vincent does a very sultry, sexy rendition on EASY EVIL and is one of the lps many highlights along with Telma Hopkins solo on I DONT KNOW YOU ANYMORE,. . . . simply lovely. this lp really shows off the vocal group side of the group and really focuses on their harmonies. i would like to add that Joyce sister,Pam also did vocals on this lp as she did on all the Dawn lp but did not tour with the group as she was under contract to sing back up with ARETHA FRANKLIN. . . . . not a bad gig if you can get it,. . but this kept Pam as the silent 4th member of DAWN ,although she recorded on all the Dawn lps and hits. back to this cd,more great performances are here with tracks such as ,JOLIE,WHEN WE ALL SANG ALONG,the underated RUNAWAY ,LAZY SUSAN,WATCHA CLOWN BREAK DOWN,CANT BELIEVE HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU,. . . . the last track is also very nice as tony actually sings back up for himself and the results are rather surpising. very nice job. tony really does have a good rock voice when he choices to use it. too bad the alternate version of this track ,which was also a b side to RUNAWAY wasnt used here as a bonus track. i did think it is strange that some of the bouns tracks such as LOVE THE ONE YOUR WITH ,DANCE TO THE MUSIC,are included here as they do NOT include vocals with TELMA ,JOYCE AND PAM and where songs recorded before they joined tony in DAWN. to me this does not make sense to include them here and they should have been used as bonus songs on the reissue of CANDIDA. ALL in all, this is one of the groups best efforts and showcases some great performances. the lp did recieve a gold record award and later went on to sell over a million copies.
