Caress Me With Your Pretty Music Tony Orlando and Dawn
It peaked at# 94 on the Billboard Charts. This was the groups last recorded album together. This album definitely had a jazzy and sultry feeling to it. Cupid was a great hit and it peaked at #22 on the Billboard charts. It was 6 weeks on the charts. I remember when i bought this LP in 1976 and i played it all the time. I used to play these albums on a little radio turntable i had. Tony makes women want to swoon on "To Be With You". This song was backed up by comic genious Freddie Prinze. Freddie Prinze has some nice vocals on this song. They appeared on each others tv shows. This album was out the time that the Tony Orlando and Dawn Rainbow Hour was on. Tony had some amazing vocals on"Caress Me Pretty Music" Tony and Joyce shared there great vocals on "Selfish One". Joyce has a beautiful voice. Another song that Tony makes women swoon is" Happy Man". He has amazing vocals on this tune. "Midnight Love Affair" was a great tune shared by the great vocals of Tony,Telma and Joyce. Tony does a nice job on "Talk To Me". "Your All I Need To Get By" was a great tune and the vocals are just great by Tony,Telma and Joyce. They sang this song on there tv show as well as "When The Partys Over" and Cupid. It peaked at number 34(September 20, 1975) and was 3 weeks on the charts. Telma Hopkins also has a beautiful voice and she does a great job on"Your Growin On Me". When The Partys Over was a great song as well and Tony,Telma and Joyce shared vocals on this song. The 4 bonus tracks they incluced on this CD were fron his solo album. Don't Let Go was a disco sounding song and it came out when disco was popular. Sadly it only charted #100 on the Bill Board charts. I bought the single in 1978 along with the self titled album appropiately called Tony Orlando. Tony did some great vocals on this tune. Bring It On Home To Me was shared by a great vocalist Etta James and accompanies Tony on this song. Tony does a nice job on the other tunes"Save the Last Dance For Me" and "Count The Tears". Lets make this a best selling cd and let it hit the charts and beat the low chart statistics it had in 1976. These songs sound better on the cd. This is a definite must have for any Tony Orlando and Dawn fan.

GOOD
I remember TO&D from the 70's. even had one of their albums (Dawns New Ragtime Follies). Had some of their singles. . including Cupid which is included here. I was excited to see their catalog get reissued on cd,,but have to say this cd is kind of boring. Even Cupid doesn't sound as good as it did back then. The other song that was released as a single from this album is You're All I Need to Get By. This is a great song in it's own right and TO&D do a great job on it. Selfish One is another more up tempo cut suny by Joyce Vincent Wilson and it too is good. But they are the exceptions to the rule. Too many slower ballad type songs and not enough up tempo songs do this album in, IMHO. Things get interesting on the 5 bonus cuts. These are pulled from Tony Orlando's solo album released in '76. Who knew? The first song Don't Let Go is just what the doctor ordered. After a cd full of lush, mostly bland ballads we get a near disco number from Tony. I'd say this album and probably the rest of the reissued cd's are for fans only.

to be with you again
not a bad reign either, the group released some 6 lps in 3 years from 1973 till this set in the spring of 76. this in the last lp set for TONY ORLANDO AND DAWN from 1976. the lp now released on cd for the first time ever, kicks off with a very jazzy version of MY FUNNY VALENTINE,and the kicks into the groups last top 20 hit CUPID. Cupid , a mid tempo track, follows very close in style to the groups last #1 hit HE DONT LOVE YOU the previous year and does a fine job living up the the original version by Sam cook. the next track is a lovely song and the lps title track called TO BE WITH YOU which has the late Freddie Prinze singing back up. the song was considered for a single but at the last minute was pulled from release. tony does a fine job on CARESS ME PRETTY MUSIC and then Joyce Vincent just takes it away with SELFISH ONE with tony on a co lead. side 2 kicks off with another duet featuring the underated Joyce vincent and tony . i really LIKE THE SONG BUT THE track doesnt have the fire and kick that SELFISH ONE has. i think a little remix on this would have done wonders for it when it was released as a single especially when it became a disco hit for Gloria Gaynor a year later. but ,MIDNIGHT did make a repectable #15 on the ac charts. another song,TALK TO ME sounds like a left over from the HE DONT LOVE YOU sessions but it nicely fits here but it is not as romantic as the other tracks and it has more of a country feel to it,so it may seem to stick out a bit from this set. still a nice track though. the group returns to the romantic side with YOURE ALL I NEED TO GET BY and again ,the group is trying to recapture a more R@b flavor with this song. it moves along very nicely but Tony did very little PR on this lp and singles ,so this lp really has gone unnoticed for many years. even during the groups tours they never performed many of their hits ,which ,to me ,has been a problem with the groups success. if you dont tell your fans you have a new lp or song out,how do we know to go and buy them?for the most part tony does not sing many of the hits which in this case resulted in poor sales. Telma Kopkins gets a solo on YOURE GROWIN ON ME and the set closes with another toad gem WHEN THE PARTYS OVER. overall,a good lp,but i feel the lp needed a little more lushness and a few sparks would have made a big difference. still a good lp,but my favorites are HE DONT LOVE YOU,TUNEWEAVING. in addition, the cd set has 4 tracks from a tony solo set including a minor hit DONT LET GO. nice set to have on cd.
