Not Sevas Tra, but still worth a listen or 100......
"Sevas Tra" was released in 2002! So the band did not "lose a few band members" to make "Jihad". This, by the way for those of you who seem to be confused on when this was released, is Otep's original EP released in 2001. They lost a few when they made "Sevas Tra". While this EP certainly gives you an idea about not only the bands 'style', but also of the lyrics that actually mean something (if not to you then most certainly someone else), it does not come close to giving you an idea of their full potential. As far as being political and making art being separate concepts, try reading Dante's "Inferno" and tell me that again. Otep Shamaya is a Poet that either is or is not your cup of tea; but she is a Poet nonetheless. Funny how people relate Otep to 'rap-metal' (there you go again, pigeon-holing music, tsk tsk) or some other 'sub-genre' of Metal. I always thought that Metal was Metal. Point is you either appreciate this for what it is or you do not. Picking music apart is for music critics, you know, those people who failed at being musicians so they [. . . . ] all over everyone elses? And if you think I'm being a hypocrite about that, point taken. METAL UP!.

From the first moment Otep whispered "Sing to me my muses" over the radio. . I have been a loyal fan of this band. LOVE THEM!!!.


Let me explain my rating...
" however, i feel that losing a couple of band members and changing the music style in the way they did compromised the message front-lady Otep established in the band's breakthrough to mainstream ears. before i verbally dessimate this album, i would like to state that i thuroughly enjoyed Otep's first album "Sevas Tra. instead of praising creativity and freedom, the lyrical content is spent on assaulting the war (which i am also anti-war). i miss the groove heavy days that made Otep original. but if you like your music relentless, heavy and brutal (which i do) AND political, this is for you. i just never thought politics was artistic. art could not save this album for me.


Heaven has smiled upon me!
I have followed the path of music for all my years and not many bands capture my attention on the first listen, Not many at all. I have always been a huge music fan, growing up in the era of grunge and power-metal, I was lucky to escape the devistation of the 80's. To get to my point, music has a new face, behold Otep! With wicked searing vocals and a powerful message of anarchy - Otep brings in the new age of music and a new style that is sure to grab you by the balls and not let go!
Make no mistakes, Otep is NoT a pro-terrorism band, listen to the message in the music before you judge.
This is by far the best album I have bought in awhile. (Second only to Slipknot's Live 9. 0, another must have)
To make this simple for you people, if you like bands like Kittie,Sevendust,Slipknot and Amen, then pick this up!
To those out there who listen to music such as Creed and Staind, well try some Real music, pick this up.


Otep is the best
Otep Shamaya is a goddess and she is so freakin HOT! Otep rules!. Otep rules! Its the best band on earth no doubt about that, anyways jihad is good also get their other two albums which are even better.
