Pantera just doesn't get old

There are some things you never outgrow; for me that includes any given over-the-top solo by Pantera's Dimebag Darrell. At this stage of life, I am a bit too old to be attending live shredfests like Pantera was well known for -- but that doesn't mean I'm dead. Like the next guy, I might reach for Dave Brubeck's Take Five on a Sunday afternoon, or maybe a little G-n-R on the way to meet friends on a Friday night.

But when it's time to get the creative copywriting juices flowing in my office, or heading out to the hills of the Pacific Northwest on a snarling KX250 dirt bike, there's only a couple of bands that can scratch me where I itch, and Pantera's one of them. And LOUD.

Now, I would dissuade anyone from buying this greatest hits version. Whether we're talking Johnny Cash, Led Zeppelin, or this irreplaceable pillar of rock, it's best to savor each offering in its own right and in context of where the band was at when it was recorded.

Greatest hits collections may be OK for some bands with a few catchy tunes who are scant on songwriting depth, but there are just too many great riffs to be discovered in the Pantera Discography.

Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo's new project, Down, is hardcore and very solid, but lacks Pantera's intensity and originality - no shock to anyone.

Another recent discovery of mine that fits the adrenaline bill is the band Clutch, whose sound is imbued with that same southern-fried, take-no-prisoners, riff-addicted confidence.

My advice? Buy them all, NOW and while you're at it, pick up a new more powerful amp and speakers. You're going to need it.

Pantera = "The Great Southern Cowboys" From the Dallas, Texas Area = "Pure Southern Metal"!!!!!!
This contains the legendary "Dimebag Darrell" at his best, on lead guitar. The product I have is a CD/DVD Combo, this contains the same 16 songs that were included in the Amazon product desripton. It contains New Orleans Native - Philip Anselmo on lead vocals, Vinnie Paul on drums, and Rex Brown on bass.

This is "Pure Southern Metal". "Dimebag" Darrell was a great guitar player. He played his guitar with a great passion and with plenty of emotion. I saw one of his guitars on display at the Biloxi, Mississippi "Hard Rock Cafe". Nomally, this music would be a little too heavy for me, but "Dimebag" Darrell was such a great guitar player, so I became a fan. The other guys in the band are good also. Philip Anselmo (from New Orleans), is a great "Metal" vocalist.

Overall, this is a great CD/DVD Combo, and it you like something "heavy", and "metal", then you should like this one, and it that context, I recommend it. Thanks!!!!.

Pantera!
It was a great add to my collection of cds!. This cd is amazing! The best of the best songs from Pantera are on here.

Good Album
every track following assaults the listener with their hostile aggressive sound that made them loved by metal fans on a global scale. They "Took over this town" with the first track to the album. unfortunately this also caused a crazed fan to jump on stage and shoot and kill the guitarist at a show in cincinnatti ohio but pantera will live forever as one of the most powerful rock bands of all time.

The compilation of great Pantera songs!!!
I really like to listen to them more than other metal bands. I started to listen to Pantera in 2003,probably a little bit before the band broke up. This greatest hits cd really has a lot of really great tracks from their past recordings. This cd has a diverse sound from the early Metallica inspired "Cowboys from Hell" to "Reinventing The Steel",which became more of a heaver sound. My favorite songs are "I'm Broken","5 minutes alone","Walk" and my all time favorite is "Mouth for War". Their is a lot of great songs, but it also came with a dvd which shows their music videos for most of the popular songs and live stuff.

I thinks they should of done what Alice in Chains did and release a box set with live and rare songs. Some of their songs are not include like "Domination","F****** Hostile","Primal Concrete Sledge","Clash with Reality"and come on "Floods",is one of best guitar solos ever. The album is great if you like Pantera and do want to buy of their separate cds this collection has not all of their best work, but it still has a lot of superb metal songs.

Pros: great metal songs, great guitar solos, superb drumming and loud vocals

Cons: should of made a box set.
