stupid The main riff to "last resort" is a rip off of a riff in "genghis khan" by iron maiden from the "killers" album and the chorus vocal melody for "between angels and insects" is a rip off of the lead guitar part on the intro to "prowler" from the self-titled maiden album. Papa roach ripped of iron maiden twice on this album.
A top heavy album.
It's hard to review this album without thinking about their newer albums but I'm gonna try.
Papa roach dropped their debut album, "Infest" in 2000 and have evolved over time creating four albums with many hits, and a few misses. This is "Infest," a dark album with good riffs and dark lyrical subjects. Jacoby, "or Mr. Dick if your nasty", was at his craziest. He sings, raps and screams his heart out. Here is my take on "Infest" nine years later.
1. Infest (4:09) 10/10
2. Last Resort (3:20) 10/10
3. Broken Home (3:42) 9/10
4. Dead Cell (3:06) 9/10
5. Between Angels And Insects (3:54) 10/10
6. Blood Brothers (3:34) 9/10
7. Revenge (3:42) 7/10
8. Snakes (3:30) 6/10
9. Never Enough (3:36) 6/10
10. Binge (3:48) 6. 5/10
11. Thrown Away (4:08) 7/10
Overall: 11 tracks, 40:23 7/10
A very top heavy album in my opinion. The first six are great and the last five are mediocre and sometimes even boring and common place. Jacoby is at his best when he is singing and screaming, his "rapped" vocals in "Infest" and "Between Angels And Insects" are good but his "rapped" parts in "Revenge" and "Snakes" don't do anything for me. What stands out on this CD is Jerry's riffs and Jacoby's vocals. "Between Angels And Insects" is by far my favorite song lyrically and song wise. A complete 10/10. I would describe the sound of "Infest" as alternative metal, meets modern rock with, and only because of some of the vocals, hip hop. The DJ scratches are annoying and unnecessary.
A good start for a band that is still bumping and grinding, kicking and screaming, and rockin'. The "rapped" parts might scare off some people, but it does have enough good songs to justify a buy if you dig their other stuff.
I would recommend this album if you have newer P. Roach albums, like good riffs, and like modern hard rock/alt metal.
P. S. - The bonus track "Tightrope" is awesome and should have been on the album.

Papa Roach's best release
You can listen to their Potatoes For Christmas release and hear that they really wanted to be in the rock genre. Papa Roach really are posers. However, they released Infest which was geared towards nu-metal fans. Nu-metal was the big thing back in the late 1990's and early 2000's. Any band could release a nu-metal album and it would sell almost a million copies in less than a year. Papa Roach (along with other bands such as Powerman 5000) wanted to cash in on this so they came out with Infest. This album is fused with many elements such as rap, bass-heavy grooves, and melodic choruses. It closely followed the nu-metal formula and didn't stray. Pretty much every song on this album is purchase worthy. Sure, they may sound like other bands (Limp Bizkit, Korn, Disturbed, etc. ) but that doesn't mean that this release is bad.
If I like this album so much, why do I hammer Papa Roach? Because Papa Roach used the nu-metal craze to cash in and pull the bait and switch technique. Their next album would be inferior to this as they would take on their true sound: generic radio rock. I realize that nu-metal has effectively died although many bands (Korn, Disturbed, Slipknot, System Of A Down, Mudvayne, etc. ) from that era are alive and kicking today. Many of those bands have stuck to their roots after all these years.
So Papa Roach came out with this nu-metal album only to switch things on their fans with lovehatetragedy, Getting Away With Murder, The Paramour Sessions, and I am sure their yet-to-be released album will have the exact same sound as The Paramour Sessions (their first two singles give that impression). Papa Roach were just posing as a nu-metal band to get more fans and sell more records. It was a shame too as Papa Roach could have continued with their original sound and been one of the few nu-metal bands that survived while staying within the genre.
Buy this album, it comes highly recommended especially if you were into nu-metal back then. Newer Papa Roach fans normally don't like this as they are turned away from the chugging riffs and raping. Any fan of nu-metal should already have this release in their collection. Newer fans: preview the songs first before you purchase the album.
Best Papa Roach CD
I know a lot of people may disagree and dislike it cause it's nu-metal and etc. To me, personally I think this is the only good CD they ever came out with. The new stuff I hate, I cannot get into them. I pretty much gave up on them after Infest. But every once in a while I will pop this album in my CD player and remember the good times I had back in the day. I hate how they changed, but whatever. 5/5.
great album
this debut from PR was awsome a great mixture of rap/rock i really don't care what you people give it cause this was hot this and their third album getting away with muder is their best but this album was great.
