Great music! Some of the best music we've ever purchased. This guy is great. Definately a strong touch of Dylan with strong, driving beats. We love his voice. Give this a try. You'll want to buy more of his music.
A GREAT CD
But this CD should rank right up there with his best work. I am a HUGE Graham Parker fan, and, for the most part, I think his CDs have gotten better and better over the last ten years. I might be wrong, but it seems to be more autobiographical than usual and for that reason it is very poignant. Do not expect the hard rocking Parker from Acid Bubbblegum or Squeezing Out Sparks but instead expect a more reflective, melancholy, and sometimes haunting sound - it is a sound that I think suits him to a tea. It is also a sound that may take a few listenings to grab hold, but once it does - and it will - you will find yourself reaching to play it again and again.
(I just wish that he would tour the Pacific Northwest. ).
I think it's very average for him.
He is a good writer but he uses it in a way less effective way since his songs aren't "to the point" like they use to be, it seems like he rambles on and on instead of stopping the song and leaving you wanting for more. You listen to this album and listen to the early GP albums and the things that he was so famous for are gone. Also his acerbic wit is gone which made the songs have a nice sting to them. If you want a great GP record check out: Heat Treatment, Squeezing out the Sparks, Howling Wind to start. This album is only good for hardcore fans and customers that want an average predictable album.
Good Album from a Great Artist.
(Richard Thompson the other). Graham Parker is one of the two most underrated preformers of the last 30 years. This album while not his best is still a very good album with many songs that I enjoy. He proves that an artist even though not that well known to the mass media, still after all these years makes music that puts most artists to shame.
A fan but really it's a five star.
In my opinion their aren't many people on his level. I've been listening to Graham Parker since 1976 I believe, and I have a world of respect for him as a writer, singer and performer. He amazes me that for an old geek at his age he can come up with a CD this strong. Most of his competition just puts out mediocre product if they record at all.
It's not to often I listen to a new Cd and have WOW moments,on this Cd I had several WOW moments.
If you are curious or a fan who hasn't listened to Graham lately you owe it to yourself to get this Cd. Personally the 30 Minute samples didn't do much for me I bought this Cd because yes I am a fan and in his universe there has been a buzz about this CD.
