Essential Petty album If anything Rick Rubin's spare production of this album gives it an almost timeless quality. It's hard to believe this album was released in 1994! It doesn't sound dated whatsoever. This album could've been released last week. As for songs? They're all fantastic. From classic rock, acoustic folk, and beautiful Rickenbacker jangle pop - it's all here. Lyrically, this is one of TP's most reflective album's ever. I always felt the overall mood of the album's theme was 'make the most of this life' and 'don't be afraid to move on when you know you must move on'. It's a great feel good album, and if you're a Petty fan or new to his music this is the one to get. You'll love it.
Different but good.
This is probably more mature than any Heart breakers CD. This collection is much different than Tom's work with the Heart breakers. Still highly recommended for the ultimate Tom Petty fan. .
Pick this bunch
Not being a classic rock fan in particular, some of his deepest and diverse studio work sounds evident throughout, likely your classic case of a Rubin sandwich artist revitalization. 3 1/2
The second side looses a bit of pulse, but Wildflowers remains one of Petty's most engaging works, the only one I've cared to own actually. .
The Desert Island Tom Petty Album
I am an avid music fan with hundreds of albums in my collection and this one of the ones that I can always put on at any time and listen to start to finish. I was 18 when this album came out and I identified as much with it then as I do now. There isn't a weak tune to be found and it's the barometer by which to measure the rest of his work. I believe it's not only his best album - with honorable mentions going to "Full Moon Fever", and the underrated "The Last DJ" - but also one of my favorite albums of all time. You cannot call yourself a Petty fan without it!!.
Simply Perfect In Every Way Concievible
I've always love their entire catalog of songs and have nothing but the highest of praise for every single member that has ever been lucky enough to live the dream and become the best rock and roll band period. I have been a devoted to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers since I've been thirteen years old. My love and respect to them is undying and am proud to be a fan of theirs. And it all started with this Album Wildflowers. I can't even stress to you more how magical this album is and I remember first hearing it's first single when it first came out and instantly loving it and wanting to here more. And soon after owning the Album and listening to it over, and over, and over, and over. Until I played so much the tape broke,so I went and bought another copy.
Now,with this Album introduced to the Band is For Tom try a style of music and storytelling that was unlike the him or the Heartbreakers and essentially and for all intents and purposes a Solo Album simular to his 1988 Album Full Moon Fever. However, like the three previous Album lead Guitar Mike Campbell have played on the Tom Petty Solo Albums and Heartbreakers ones as well. The band regrouped after a hard and difficult time with their previous Album Into The Great Wide Open which is widely consider the less responded Albums. The sessions were at first marred by animosity by a few members by Tom's sparatic use of them in recent years in the recording studio. Drummer Stan Lynch that has been with the Heartbreakers since 1977 was fired by Tom after repeated complaints about the new material of Wildflowers and making recordings sound sub par either purposely or by designed. A new drummer was found and the rest is an musical odessy of imagination, artistic peaks and an most intimate and soul satisifying musical experiences I promise you (especially if you're a Fan already) that you will experience.
This Album is an enigma more than any previous ones before it. Because of the fact is that you can't define or put a theme that almost always are found like in other Albums Tom Petty or others. And I believe the the aforementioned Name-Wildflowers really makes you feel good. You'll think about past loves of family or great times in your life. There are songs that are pure Rock and Roll at it's finest like the song You Wreck Me Baby. But the most hard hitting pure coolness Rock song I've ever heard is Little Honey Bee. Now,listen to that song and don't tell me that Tom Petty is the most Coolest People of all time. But I have to warn you:If you're alone drunk listening to the Album later on that will literally break you down emotionally that you'll begin to tear up and go on the most introspective songs I've ever heard. One all these years later affects me so much that drunk or sober listening to it I swear with exageration speaks directly to my Soul like that song was written in a way just for me that song being-It's hard to find a Friend. It's such a powerful song I don't care who you are when you listen to this song it feels such a powerful emotion from it that afterwards you feel really good like your soul has been scrubbed clean.
I could keep going with this Review,I could write more about this fantastic Album and my great memories I've had listening to it throughout good and bad times of my life. But the magic of this Album is discovering for yourself about what it means to you. And I don't care if you like Rock,Alternative,Rap,Country or even Metal. If you truely love listening to excellent Music do yourself a favor to get this Album. I could not recommend this Album highly enough. Please get it and enjoy the results of what happens when a group of increadable Musicians come together and create an Album of heart felt, honest and inspired Art in the spoken word ever made. This Album has no equal and will never have one.
