Lifting Himself Beyond His Limitations
Rhythm guitar parts frame the soundfield by staking out the territory to the extreme right and left, and then the voices and other action take place in between. Producer Jeff Lynne has always favored a big sound, and this release has it. Every little nuance rings clear, making it fun to listen to Petty's chameleon-like voice--now sounding like Bob Dylan, now like Roger McGuinn, and sometimes even like Tom Petty, one of our favorite TV stars from The Gary Shandling Show.

Although Petty has always seemed like much more of a craftsman than an artist, this collection of tunes has its artistic moments, and the lyrics are surprisingly interesting. By not overreaching, Petty was able to lift himself beyond his limitations, and the sound was nicely polished by MFSL's GAIN II system, making this an extraordinary release that is, after all, only rock and roll, so don't be crushed if you van no longer find it.


Cool really really cool
He's not relly much listened to but if it was a rating out 100 i would give him 100% i guess it's kinda rock but not really if you see this cd cheap get it!. i found his cd in a garage sale it's was excellent and tom petty is pretty cool.
