One of few albums I can listen to over and over Totally unique band with great sound and improvisational skill. Rift is a regular in the car and at home-I love tracks like Mound, Maze and Weigh. Anyone who can bash Phish clearly has no concept of good music.
Rift
Like new, haven't heard rift since i lost it three years ago, takes me back.
Smooth, Easy and Perfect!
CD was in exact condition as described and transaction was ridiculoulsy
easy!!! Arrived super quick too! Would def do business again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Mostly memorable
Not as coherent as many others, but full of daring passages often including blissful compositional shots to the heart. 3 1/2
Another worthy early release. Too much over-intellectualizing quirk however, keeps a lid from these proceedings spilling over into a complete time-lapse. .
One of Phish's finest accomplishments in the studio...
This album, Rift, is an exception. Phish is usually known as a live band, and their studio efforts, while good, seem more like blueprints for their longer jams, leaving the song on their studio efforts to sound unfinished. This album, along with A Picture of Nectar, are my two favorite studio albums of theirs.
I love the opening title track, one of Phish's best songs ever. The song also has a beautiful guitar solo by Trey, where he slows down and plays with depth and feeling. There's the epic songs Maze and It's Ice, the silly Weigh and Mound (courtesy of Mike Gordon), and the brilliantly short, tight Sparkle. The lyrics here (mostly by Tom Marshall) don't come across as much of an in-joke as some of their other works. Much of the time Phish's lyrics are silly, snarky, and just plain obscure, but it's obscurity for obscurity's sake. Here they're very witty, intelligent, and occasionally sweet. Trey and Tom Marshall wrote almost all of the material here, and it's one of their and of the band's greatest accomplishments. .
