Customer Reviews Decent Effort! While Popa has floated from several labels including his own, he has now landed with Blind Pig who has released in the States Popa's new and outstanding, "How'd A White Boy Get The Blues". Ted Horowitz aka Popa Chubby is an outstanding rockin' blues musician out of New York. While Horowitz is a capable musician, this CD is, by a large margin, the best of his pre-Pig material. The CD begins with, and is highlighted by, a stellar performance of the classic "Nobody Knows. . . " which has some pretty tasty guitar licks coupled with some really good vocals. Horowitz follows this with a couple of non-blues, pop rock oriented, tunes such as "What's Your Point", "Dance The Night Away", "Real Thing", and "Laya" before getting back to what he does best with the very powerful slow blues number, "Long Way Home". The remainder of the disc, while worth listening to, strays away from the blues and back to pop land until you reach the autobiographic "Nobody Loves Me Like I Love Myself". The disc concludes with the story of Popa Chubby's on stage altercation with a drunken, Roger Clinton in a club one evening in New York. Popa laments on "Oh Roger" that the altercation with the President Clinton's brother has prevented him from breaking out and gaining national recognition. Too bad Monica didn't have the same view! Oh well, I guess in some respects, term limits can be viewed as a good thing. Overall, a decent effort, but Popa really shines on the new Blind Pig release.
Blues/Rock at its best!
