A Rebel with a Cause
His politically charged program of original songs is aimed at the establishment. Popa Chubby is a rebel. Presented in his usual, contemporary blues format, the message hits home with a bang. Chubby's fiery guitar and expressive vocals leave their imprint. Maybe those candidates for November's election will take note. With a few expletives inserted in his lyrics that have prompted the "explicit content" warning on his album cover, the big guy tells it the way he knows best. It's tough talk for a new world. Chubby has included his searing lyrics in his liner booklet.

"Un-American Blues" boogies with a musical theme fit for Middle America, while its lyrics take aim at what's wrong. "Young Men" marches gallantly with folk anthem majesty, while its message shows deep regret over war's losses. Through it all, Popa Chubby's fiery guitar drives each message home. A Carter Family classic with rock & roll machinations, an original tune that recalls the Beach Boys' method of telling a story, and an instrumental number fit for celebrating in Rio give the album a lovable scope. Chubby's blues and more give the session a terrific foundation. This is contemporary blues at its best. What he says through his lyrics, however, takes the listener in a different direction. We're urged to take a serious look at what we've been taught. Question authority. As long as we can do so over a few beers and a program of music such as this, why not?

Popa gets better once more...
So here it is again. I posted this review May 21, 2004 and somehow it dissapeared. Kiril

I got the European version of this Popa Chubby album (different and better cover), which was out a month or so prior to the Blind Pig records US edition. Popa is very popular around here and in my perception way underappreciated in his home in America. The new title is out for sometime now and there's not a single customer review on Amazon yet?!? That said you need this CD badly if you are into an honest, straight ahead blues-rock music, lets alone if you are a fan already. Then for the long-time Popa fans his unique melodic (for lack of a better term to describe them) solos are not a secret. He is true to the style again, yet the new tunes are fresh and stinging and much different from his previous work too. I will put Peace Love & Respect alongside Popa's best studio work so far: How'd a White Boy Get the Blues? and the outstanding The Good, the Bad & the Chubby. It's a shame to miss any of them, honestly. . . . BTW it's not the second (as the editor review states) but the third Blind Pig release, plus a fourth CD of previously issued early works. Did I mention the artist is underappreciated. . . . . ?

Wow
I would highly recommend it to anyone who digs the blues. Being only my second time hearing Popa Chubby, this album was quite an introduction to his music. I heard the first song from his new big man big guitar album no the radio, a blistering cover of Hendrix's version of "Hey Joe" i was very excited to hear more and my excitement wasn't misplaced. Buy This Album. Now.

The guy is brilliant and getting better
CHUBBY's brand of social conscious and good time BLUES is getting better and better. My first CHUBBY was very good, but this is a huge step forward. He has things that he wants to say, but he never becomes preachy. His views are valid and put in an intelligent way via his musik. Yet despite all that, this CD is mainly about having fun.
You can certainly ignore all the message stuff and simply get of on CHUBBY's guitar. He is also getting better as a guitar player and this CD contains many superb guitar moments.
It will also get any party going and I dare you to sit still through this one. If you like a current version of the blues by an intelligent songwriter / guitarist, look no further, this delivers.
