Awesome.
This album is the last album Elvis would record and shows why HE IS: The King.

Moody Blue
The other songs are all great too! The Title song "Moody Blue" is my favorite. This is a fabulous album with Elvis belting out "Unchained Melody". It is definitely worth having in any Elvis Presley collection.

The King's Last
But right up until the end, Elvis kept on trying to do his best. It often pains a lot of his fans to know that whenever people think of Elvis Presley these days, the image isn't that of the hip-swiveling cat who changed the face of American music in the staid 1950s, nor the B-movie matinee idol of the 1960s, nor even the resurrected pop icon of that famous '68 NBC Comeback Special, but that of a bloated train wreck done in by his own extreme abuse of prescription pills, bad diets, too much Vegas, and too cold-blooded a manager. He may not have always succeeded, but at least he tried. The proof of that was on what sadly turned out to be his very last album, MOODY BLUE, released mere weeks before that terrible August day in 1977.

This CD release actually combines that album with his 1976 album FROM ELVIS PRESLEY BOULEVARD; and though one can tell at times that Elvis was clearly no longer the man that generations had grown up with (by the 70s, the ballads outnumbered the rockers, due in no small measure to the cataclysmic collapse of his marriage to Priscilla), he still somehow managed to come up with some true gems. The tracks from FROM ELVIS PRESLEY BOULEVARD include an incredibly powerful version of Timi Yuro's 1961 classic "Hurt", which, despite sounding wildly out of place during the disco era, managed to get to #28 on the Billboard Hot 100 in May 1976; its flip side, "For The Heart", was wrriten by Dennis Linde, whose "Burning Love" was Elvis' last Top Ten hit, in 1972. MOODY BLUE, meanwhile, featured, among other gems, the title track written by the same writer (Mark James) whose "Suspicious Minds" was arguably Elvis' finest hour as a vocalist (it hit #31 in March 1977), an R&B-style version of George Jones' 1962 country smash hit "She Thinks I Still Care"; and a fine version of Johnny Ace's 1954 classic "Pledging My Love. " The big hit on the album, of course, was "Way Down", which showed that Elvis could still have the same impact on people as he always did. Sadly, by the time "Way Down" reached #18 on the Billboard Hot 100, the King was no longer alive.

If MOODY BLUE is an imperfect album in the eyes of many, it is only because its maker was imperfect. Elvis often battled so many demons, both from within and without, in his later years that he was frequently unable to succeed either onstage or in the studio. It was a struggle that he sadly lost, and the pop music world, whether it acknowledged it or not, was poorer for that loss. But however imperfect MOODY BLUE may be, it still showed that Elvis would always be a Gold standard by which any self-respecting male pop and rock and roll star would be measured. Elvis may have left the building on August 16, 1977, but his presence will remain with us forever.

I had the alblem now I have the CD
All the songs from the original alblem are on here and sounds great Elvis poors his heart out on this.

I don't get it either.....
I understand the whole "Colonel Tom" business. I have never ever understood RCA's neglectful treatment of Elvis, who was without a doubt their biggest selling star for a while there, and still rakes in millions for them. Still, that is PAST history. They should step up to the plate and rework his catalog with respect and give it some new marketing. Elvis is still hugely popular and could make them a fortune with a whole new generation. Dumb people. . . . .

As for the CD. . . . Moody Blue is a sentimental favorite, having been his last album. As for From Elvis Presley Blvd. Memphis TN, well that and Promised Land are my all time two favorites outside of his gospel and Chirstmas work. .
