Good memories
I had a copy and it got lost somehow, and I liked it enough to buy another copy. My late son got me interested in Primus years ago, starting with this album. (I do like other Primus recordings better than this, but because of how I learned about it this holds a special place in my heart. And cd player too, I guess!) .

Genius, I'm telling you, pure genius...
Bass, not guitar, is what drives this music and the lead singers voice is the antithesis of what most heavy metal bands portray. Primus is for those rock listeners who are looking for ecclectic vibes and thought-provoking lyrics. Yet, somehow, the more you listen to this band, the more their lyrics and music make sense; there is pure artistic genius at work in many of these songs!.

Headache Music
You ever have those friends that all start going on and on about this great band they have started listening to, and how cool the bass player is 'cause he plays bass so loudly due to his mommy and daddy not buying him an amp?. . and then praise him like it makes him something special?

Trust me, it does not make him one of the greatest bass players of all time, he may be better then the alternative rejects who thought 6 string guitar was so hard they switched to bass 'cause it's easier, those kind of talentless so called musicians that followed the trend of, learn 3 chords, and violate them.

On this particular album here, the track those friends at the time flocked around was Load Up The Cannonballs and Shake Hands With Beef.

I think my initial reaction was to just stop in my tracks and blink a few times wondering how the heck you come up with a title like that?

By the time it was over, and those friends at the time had over played it, I personally rate that song up there with whoever wrote "Push The Little Daisies To Make Them Come Up" as part of the top 10 worst songs of all time. Then the top 5 of the worlds most annoying songs. And top 3 of the worlds most overrated as something special as judged by people who are not musicians and can see it for what it really is list.

The rest of the album was a snore fest too, no memorable tracks what so ever, except for the one i mentioned cause it's the worst thing this band has ever put together.

.

Dosen't smell that bad
Even with questionable production (drums in particular) and some lazy songwriting continuing a small but sequential decline in quality which eventually ended up rendering Claypool's first love unnecessary, The Brown Album still falls in the favor of acquisition, and for some may even be a pleasant ongoing change where this bassmaster continues to stress fun over frenzy, even if this frontman's version of fun was always a little bit different.

3 short unimpressive songs, 12 gems.
No big deal. Tim's gone. . . Brain isn't that bad of a drummer. He's not nearly as good here as he was on Antipop, but I don't think this album really required crazy drumming (well, Fisticuffs deserved better drums, but. . . ). I'll just break up the different awesome-ness levels of each song into "Amazing", "Great", "Good", "Unimpressive", and "Annoying as hell":

Amazing:
-------
Golden Boy
Hats Off
Bob's Party Time Lounge

Great:
-------
The Return of Sathington Willoughby
Fisticuffs
Over The Falls
Shake Hands with Beef
Duchess and the Proverbial Mindspread
Kalamazoo
Chastising of the Renegade

Good:
-----
Arnie
Puddin' Taine

Unimpressive:
-------------
Restin' Bones

Annoying as Hell
----------------
Camelback Cinema
Coddingtown

That's about all you need to know.
