Pure Primus.
All the covers are really good. This cd just proves that Primus can and will do anything they want too. Ones that really stand out are "scissor man", "The Family and the Fishing Net" and "The Thing that should not be". As for the The live songs go, they rock. Live Primus is always a good thing. Too Many Puppies is the only song on the cd that is Primus's songs and isn't live. The enhanced portion of the cd is cool too. Just by watching the animation you can tell that this is Primus. The only down side to this cd is the price, I think it's a bit high. Other then that this cd is great. Any big Primus Fan should have this in their collection. Also check out the Miscellaneous Debris EP which is really awesome too.

GREAT CD- More ups than downs
However, there are some some songs that are just too wierd for me (Scissor Man, Camel) and some that don't go well with Primus (The Thing That Should Not Be). This CD has some great songs on it (Fishing Net, Amos, Puppies, Tommy, and Bob's Party Time Lounge).

Great Fun
So naturally, I took Rhinoplasty(a sequel of sorts to the fan favorite Miscilanious Debris) in good humor. I always like to watch it when bands take a step back from their normall rituals of music and play something for a different for a change. What I got back is a cover album that is not only quite good, its amusing by its own rights.

The music on here is very eclectic. From Stanley Clark, to Peter Gabriel, to XTC, this CD covers a lot of ground in the way of musical tastes. The great news is all the covers are quite good in their own respects(I cannot judge them by their originals because I have not heard them. Well, the Metallica cover is a different story). Another thing that I enjoy about this CD is that even though its still a cover CD, Primus's signiture sound is still there(if you don't believe me that Primus has a signiture sound, check your winamp genre listing. You'll find a Primus catagory. How many other bands have their own listings). Les still knows how to lay on that bass groove and Ler still makes interesting sounds with his guitar. Brain is a compentant drummer, but saddly can never compare to the almighty Herb(which I heard has signed back onto the band!). Also the extra bonus of the two live songs were a nice touch. Both are well recorded and certainly well preformed(Les seems to be such a great stage presonality).

What started out as an impulse purchase turned into another great aquisition for me. It almost even inspires me to brave the critically panned Brown album. (. . . ).

A Revitalizing Album
I'm glad I bought it. I was starting to burn out on Primus with the few albums prior to this one, but I had to buy this for the Jerry Reed song. I remembered "Amos Moses" from my childhood. Primus's version is fresh and different but also a dead on rendition. While I'm not as familiar with many of the remaining songs they are none the less enjoyable and allow Primus to stretch into some stuff I haven't heard from them before. "Scissor Man" would fit nicely into any Primus album musically and lyrically. Silly Putty is a near Acid Jazz instrumental. "The Thing That Should Not Be" doesn't really add much to the Metallica version but is servicable. The two live bonus tracks are exciting versions of two of my favorite Primus songs.

I think that doing this album of covers revitalized something in Primus. I don't think it's a coincidence that their next album Anti-Pop was one of the freshest, best albums they've put out since Sailing The Seas Of Cheese.

It's a matter of taste
I asked myself, "Why would other people be so hateful toward one of the most origonal bands out there?" Then I figured out that not all poeple can stand the type of music that primus plays. As I was reading the other reviews and I started getting mad at them. It's a matter of taste. If you like origonality, buy this album. If you like pop, definatly don't buy this album.

Another thing, Sure there are better basists than Les Claypool, but it comes back to origonality. Has anybody ever heard a similar sound coming out of somebody else's bass? The man is a musical genius. If there is a similar sound elsewhere, I'd like to know who or what band it is.

Of course this album may not have the best solos and theatrics of other primus music, but, if you like primus, it's great music.

The main songs are silly putty, the two live tracks, and the devil went down to georgia on the enhanced part.
