Prince and his revolution If you are a fan of Prince and some of the spin-off groups this CD is worth getting. Hated the movie but love the soundtrack. The best cuts are the very hard to get "Screams of Passion" by the Family and the sexy "Erotic City" that still has folks trying to figure out the f-word that is used in the lyrics. .
Released to help Spike Lee and to help Prince get off of Warners faster
Records because of the creative control Prince was losing there. 1996, A Spike Lee Joint called GIRL 6 was released with the soundtrack arranged by Prince, songs mostly performed by Prince (with The Revolution or The New Power Generation) at this time Prince was releasing anything he could to get out of a digusted Warner Bros. This was one of his anythings.
7 songs you should know of by Prince, "She Spoke To Me" and "Don't Talk To Strangers" were unreleased at that time. The two shockers out of this disc are the non-Prince performed songs 1982's Vanity 6 "Nasty Girl" and 1985's The Family "The Screams Of Passion" which maybe anyone's actual reasoning for buying this. These songs fit well for the sexual telemarketing motion picture, just like "Erotic City" and "Hot Thing" does. Annoying songs by the NPG "Count The Days" and the title track, well let's just say those fill ins really does nothing for this soundtrack.
GIRL 6 is like a mini-EP of Prince's hits plus extras by himself, the NPG, Vanity 6 and The Family. Any of theses songs you like? 1 maybe 2? Cool, buy this used. You'll use the skip button on a couple of them, maybe more.
Hits and Rarities for Prince
The 13 tracks clock in at 61:13, with some of the material dating back to 1982. This is an interesting - and underrated - soundtrack/collection in the vast Prince catalog.
Released in March 1996 it follows a trend Prince set forth in the late-1980s for soundtrack projects; dig around the vault for unreleased songs and/or toss in a few previously-released, but re-edited, tracks. This could be titled, "hits and rarities. "
There is material from Vanity 6 (the clubland classic, Nasty Girl), The Family (The Screams of Passion) and New Power Generation (newly written for the soundtrack and single, Girl 6, and Count the Days) to complement the offerings from Prince. Nasty Girl was also issued as a single nearly 15 years after it was a hit for Vanity 6 and the vibe remains amazingly fresh. As long as clubs have DJ's spinning the beat, Vanity 6 will be on the playlist for a new audience.
This is a neat retrospective into Prince's many projects and is as much a soundtrack on facets of his career as it is a solid soundtrack to the film that was directed by Spike Lee.
Classic Prince Protege's
Overall, it's a nostalgic feeling and great collection. I would've given it 5 but it's missing "Sex Shooter" and probably could've had a hit or two by "The Time". I hardly remember the movie but the hits last forever.
pretty good
i like the songs on this soundtrack, but my favorite is the classic erotic city.
