High-octane ProclaimersS. This album, supported by a U. tour, is perhaps the highest-energy Proclaimers offering to date, delivered on the heels of their unexpected attention for the song "500 Miles" that appeared in "Benny and Joon. " The Reid brothers are nothing if not themselves, with strong Scottish accents and concerns about family, religion, work and Scotland, all expressed in song. They tip a cap to their blues roots by covering Otis Redding's "These Arms of Mine," but the true gems are "Shout, Shout" and "Don't Turn Out Like Your Mother. ".
great music, period
The title song is one of my favorites because it combines clever lyrics and spectacular harmonies with heart-felt singing and great musicianship. I've been a big Proclaimers fan ever since I heard "Sunshine on Leith", and "Hit the Highway" does not disappoint, to say the least. "Don't Turn Out Like Your Mother" is funny, and expresses feelings that anyone who's ever been in a long-time relationship can understand. It's truly a shame the Proclaimers have not had more attention and airplay in the U. S. They deserve it, and have a lot more talent than more popular acts.
Christian Rock an Oxymoron
Hit the Highway unfortunately demonstrates that although Christianity may be good for the soul it is bad for music. Sunshine on Leith is a fabulous album. The brilliant lyrics of Sunshine have disappeared and been replaced with dull preaching accompanied by nice guitars.
Ahh...How About Awesome!
Their talent is overwhelming. How these two Scotsmen escaped deity status I will never know. More intelligent, introspective, self-empowering, self-effacing, humerous tunes do not exist-period. This CD has harmonies (and lyrics) that will break your heart. Their geeky persona's are clearly a put-on, every tune radiates the confidence of proud men who clearly have mastered their craft. Above all else, this CD rocks harder than the Indigo Girls on Scottish Whiskey. I have since purchased their two preceeding CD's and have only rave commentary for "The Proclaimers" (check out "This is the Story" for an acoustic masterpiece). If you buy one CD this year, make it a "Proclaimers" CD-any one. They truly stand alone.
An honest view of life's contents
Each song is a testiment to the way we should all live and love; honestly. The Proclaimers are two scottish brothers who love life, their women and God.
