Disappointing
Somewhere, for some reason, they lost most of their salsa/jazz influences and went generic nu-metal (the downfall of metal) with latin percussion, something Sepultura masterd a long time ago (true metal, not this nu-metal [. After their amazing first album, which was the perfect blend of bilingual metal, jazz, and salsa, this one comes off as a huge disapointment. . ]). There are still some gems, like Si Aja, Pa'Ti Pa'Mi, and Ahorake and the production/musicianship is still as good as before, but I found myself skipping through most of the songs. Get Fundamental instead.

LOUD, HARD AND EXCELLENT!!
This CD has no faults - it's smoothly mixed, super high energy - the songs flow together like butter - lots of bongos, very heavy on the bass, horns - guitar reminds me of old Santana at times. My 25 year old daughter surprises me with new stuff all the time, rarely do I instantly LOVE it. Most of the songs are in Puerto Rican AND English. I cannot sit still and listen to this nor can I listen to it quietly - it flat out ROCKS!!! Crank up the volume! If I HAD to compare them to someone else, I can't - and that's a good thing in my book!!! Can't wait to see them live! .

HEAVY LATINO!
For me, there are truely a Latino band playing Latino music, just in a heavy way. Great! I just love Puya. While Sepultura did there thing back in the day (and undoubtedly paved the way for bands like Puya) Pua is the only band i've heard that truely puts the latin music center stage and enhances it with heavyness. Ill Nino is good, but I think they are more subtle in weaving the latin sound into the music where as Puya really play Latin music like salsa and merengue and make it heavy. 5 Stars! .

What I Like To Call Spanish Slipknot
I couldnt believe stuff like this was out 10 years before. When i first heard about Puya from my friend Juan, I heard the song "Fundamental" and I was blown away. Well anyway, with Union Puya create a great blend of latin grooves and crunching, crisp guitars, some of the best guitar sound ive heard in a long time. Bands like Ill Nino get all they have from Puya. Another descendant of Puya is Nonpoint (another great band). I don't have a favorite track on this cd, because its all amazing. Puya is as refreshing as they were when I first heard "Fundamental". I can't wait to see what they have next up their sleeves (keep it comin' guys).

A great blend of music
I like it when a band can take their natural influences and blend them into their music SO THEY WORK (System of a Down for example) and Puya does just that. Some people don't like it when a band isn't playing a definable genre of music and Puya definitely sends a big "Screw You" to them. They start off pretty hard and you're thinking ". . . good, good, but nothing extraordinary" when the latino guitars hit your ears. I can't begin to explain how well this latin style of music is blended with traditional metal and rock. Another good thing they have going for them is the tempo-shifts: they're not afraid to use punk-rock type speeds in their songs and it works to their advantage. The tribal drums, congas and whatnots always present in the songs (changing from being just an extra sound and also sometimes taking frontstage) add a plus that never lets you think that you're listening to nu-metal garbage. Something else: the bass in the songs kicks [booty]! It's hard to find bass-playing that compliments the guitars and drums this well. 5 stars, 10 points. Peace.
