Not What You Think
In fact, you should but two (or more) and give the extra one(s) to friends. I don't know how you came by this awesome band, but you're on the wrong page; just follow any link here to the Gods & Gangsters album and buy that. They will thank you for it.

If you already have Gods & Gangsters and--understandably--want more, then you're looking for A. D. Not quite as good and only an EP, but still good stuff. So go buy that. . . and then stop there.

Despite retaining the two main songwriters this album doesn't even start sounding like the same band until the third song. And by "start sounding" I mean recognizing Ray Lemieux's what-I-used-to-think-was-distinctive voice. Unfortunately his return to form for the remaining nine songs isn't enough to save this catastrophe. The only song that sounds like it's the same group that made you want to buy this album is Alchemy; and even that sounds like a demo of a throw-away song from Gods & Gangsters.

Yes it is a much more "raw"-sounding album. Maybe it's because of the new record company (lower-budget?) or lack of producer (seriously, who's ever seen an album that doesn't credit a producer--even if it's the band themselves--SOMEWHERE?). Maybe not and the sound of the album was intentional. Whatever the why, it doesn't change what the final product is: a sad testament to the reason the band that made Gods & Gangsters wasn't phenomenally successful. I really should have rated this a one, but I just can't bring myself to do that to anything the band responsible for Heretix's prior works has done.

Great Band, Great Album
These guys are about a million times better than Stone Temples Pilots and sound nothing like them. Don't listen to the other reviewer. They were a part of the same Boston music scene that gave birth to the Pixies. Not that they particularly sound like the Pixies but you can tell that they're coming from a similar, pre-grunge frame of reference. "The Adventures of Superdevil" is different from their other albums in that it's heavier and more raw but all of their releases were really good. A great place to start with them is probably their EP called "A. D. ".

The Best 1 Cent Album You'll Ever Own
There first few albums on Polygram (and/or Island Records) were not to my liking, but "The Adventures Of Super Devil" should have been a signal that alerted us to many great albums to come ( a much rawer, less produced sound than previous recordings). Heretix was a band that broke up before it's time. I thankfully got to see them live for about 15 minutes ( which is when I 1st learned of them) while standing infront of the bay window of a club that they were playing at in Salem,MA, in the mid to late 90's. There sound could probably best likened to Stone Temple Pilots. Great drums, great guitar work. Amazon has multiple used copies ( I would say hook them up and buy it new , but I don't think the album is pressed anymore) for sale and for 1 cent, you can't go wrong with this album( God,I hope they have a reunion show one day in the MA area). .
