Ramones could do better...
Was I wrong!
"Brain Drain" is probably the worst album the Ramones have put out. I have been a Ramones fan ever since I could remember and I thought they could never do anything wrong, album wise. Only five of the tracks out of the twelve, are worth listening to.
(" I Believe in Miracles", "Punishment Fits The Crime", "Palisades Park", "Pet Sematary" and "Merry Christmas (I don't wanna fight tonight)" )
DO NOT get this as a introduction to the Ramones music. You will be severely disappointed. .
Dee Dee's insanity at it's best
Poor Dee Dee. Can't remember if this was Dee Dee's last studio album with the Ramones or not, but he was crazier than usual at this point. I hope his soul is at rest. He had a hard life and deserves some peace.
Anyway this record was produced by Bill Laswell and sounds better than most rock albums he produces. It's not a great album but has some good songs. I Believe In Miracles is one of their best. Pick this up if you already have all the classics and the incredible It's Alive DVD.
Mighty High. . . In Drug City was recorded at the same studio as this! So was Iggy's Instinct and Herbie Hancock's Rockit!.
...WE SLAM DANCED TO A ROCKIN' BAND!!!!!!
BRAIN DRAIN was the last album to officially include member DEE DEE RAMONE on bass, and perhaps has some of his best licks. Definately in MY top five RAMONE picks. This bit was released in 1989 and was the first album on the Chrysalis label.
During the eighties THE RAMONES became more of a rock and roll outfit when it came to studio recordings. You get louder guitars, and a richer sound than you will hear on the classic seventies punk recordings of the band. The best songs on this disc are DEE DEE compositions, the opening I BELIEVE IN MIRACLES is a very cool rocker. PET SEMETARY also a rockin' song. DEE DEE had a hell of a lot of problems, but the man could pen a great song. Hell, he even wrote most of the songs for the band AFTER he left for the next few albums. However, BRAIN DRAIN is his swan song. The same year he would also release a solo album of rap songs- I have never found that piece, but I would really like to! HA HA!
BRAIN DRAIN also features lots of other great songs like DONT BUST MY CHOPS and JOEY RAMONE favorites CAN'T GET YOU OUTTA MY MIND and MERRY CHRISTMAS (I DONT WANNA FIGHT TONIGHT). Then the icing on the cake is a sweet sweet cover of Gong Show ChucK Barris' PALISADES PARK which really cooks. Take a ride on the Shoop-de-shoop! DIG THIS ALBUM! One of THE RAMONES best for sure!.
Utter Brilliance
The Ramones were the best band of all time, this is a fact not an opinion. Any Ramones song, album, book or movie is good no matter what. The dead members of the Ramones will be resurrected by me and play a one month non-stop show for the world to enjoy, and it'll be FREE!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!.
