I prefer "...And Out Come The Wolves", but this is still great! I personally prefer ". "Let's Go" is a great album full of true punk energy, attitude and spirit. . . And Out Come The Wolves" because the songwriting is better and more of the songs stick out, but this is still a great album. "Let's Go" is less about the ska influence than it is about playing faster, power-chord punk rock. As I said, the songwriting on ". . . And Out Come The Wolves" is better, but for straight-up street-punk, you can't go wrong with this album! Get it, crank it, love it! Thanks for the time, and peace.
Rancid, there you go again!
As a musician who is always on the look out for new or talented acts, Rancid don't have to impress me twice. Having been a long-time fan of the seminal East Bay punk band, Rancid; I am completely happy with Let's Go. I especially like the tracks
1. Nihilism- 5/5- This song is raw, edgy and Lars vocals are complimented by lead singer Tim Armstrong's growly snarl.
2. Radio- 5/5- Co written by Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day (no relation to lead singer Tim Armstrong) this song discusses things that every young punk can relate to growing up. Sort of reminds me of a romantic song in a twisted way.
3. Side Kick- 3/5: Sort of a super hero type song. Not my least favorite but not my favorite either
4. Salvation- 5/5: Such a sexy, raw song. I remember being a teen and always having this song stuck in my head.
5. Tenderloin- 5/5: A catchy tune that is seemingly about a woman (which many Rancid songs aren't about) nice version played pit at the Rancid show here last year :)
6. Let's Go- 1/5: An annoying song that seems like a filler. Why they chose this as their title track I haven't a clue. Skip this track
7. As One- 1/5: Boring, skip this track.
8. Burn- 2/5: Catchy tune, but the lyrics are bit profanity laced for my tastes.
9. The Ballad of Jimmy and Johnny: 1/5- Another skipped track
10. Gunshot: 3/5- Filler song, skipped track to me. Sounds like bassist Matt Freeman on vocals. Like the guitar interlude though. I can do some mad skanking to this song.
11. I am the One: 1/5: Skipped track
12. Gave it Away: 1/5: Another filler, there are alot on this record!
13. Ghetto Box: 4/5: Fast and rough, great song.
14. Harry Bridges: 1/5: Boring, no clear basis
15. Black and Blue: 1/5: I don't like this song at all. Matt Freeman sings again, it appears. Matt is an incredible, talented bassist but vocals are not his calling.
16. St. Mary: 1/5: Skip
17. Dope Sick Girl: 5/5- Man, this song is catchy. Its funny too. Love it!
18. International Cover Up: 2/5- I can take or leave this song.
19. Solidarity: 1/5- Boring, lack of clear structure. Filler, again.
20. Midnight: 5/5- Love this song. Makes me want to get up and dance in some way, shape, or form.
21. Motorcycle Ride: 5/5- Clear structure, great progression in chords and formulation. Punk rock at its finest, I don't care what the 12 year old kids say today. This is raw punk power.
22. Name: 4/5- I like how Tim screams "you don't know my name!" in the beginning. Great bass lines and progression. Great interlude.
23. 7 Years Down: 1/5: A bad way to close the cd. .
Ignore what Rancid became...
Short burts of true grit. 'cos this album is straight-ahead rock&roll at its best. Motorcycle Ride, Harry Bridges, Solidarity. . . How can you complain when you're getting more than TWENTY-FIVE songs in a space where most bands deliver ten.
.
Two albums from Rancid you should get.
The rest are not as inspired and not so spirited. Lets go and the self titled album.
Not bad....not bad at all.
Had heard all the talk of them having a very oi! sound mixed with hardcore and all the other post Opperation Ivy stuff as well but have to say, after just about 1 listen I was won over. Got to admit didnt know what to expect from this one.
This is pretty good. Fast, loud and short is how this could best be described. Mix in a few Oi! style chants and you have some damn good music here.
Well worth buying.
