Excellent live cd First, sound quality on this is great - this is a less-than-official release so that's a plus. I disagree with the first reviewer and prefer Navarro to anybody else. Navvaro, Flea, Chad Smith are all on fire and at the top of their game (I've heard some sloppy RHCP shows and this is not one of them (hello Hyde Park). Anyway, this is missing about 3 songs typically played (going by the Woodstock set) - "Higher Ground", "Aeroplane" & "Flea's Song" so -1 for that. Flea & Smith are one of the greatest rhythm sections out there and it shows here. Strong audience reaction throughout but does not get in the way of the performance. It sounds like they were pumped up for this long running UK festival!.
Not Vintage Chili Peppers
I've seen them many times and have all their albums. The Chili Peppers are my favorite band. I hate they're on a permanent hiatus right now. As good as their albums are, their live performances are even better. I was excited to see a live album that was put out in 2009. I thought it would have the latest material on there. That's NOT what this album is. This album is a recording of a performance from 1994, with Dave Navarro on guitar, NOT John Frusciante. They play a lot of stuff from Mother's Milk, a few songs from Uplift Mofo, and a couple from One Hot Minute. While any Chili Pepper is better than none, it's not nearly as good of chemistry and execution (nor as hard, creative, or funky) as when Frusciante was with the band. Skip this one and get a live recording with Frusciatnte on guitar. .
