Early REO, before Kevin Cronin made them a real band...
I must say that "Ridin' The Storm Out" is one of their best early songs, but the live version is arguably more memorable than this studio version. The music on this album is essentially what you'd expect from bands of the early seventies - Certainly not anywhere near the quality or depth of their first sensational album - Hi Infidelity, which got me hooked on REO. Also, "Time For Me To Fly" was excellent, but is found on "You can Tune a Piano, But You Can't Tuna Fish" album. Without Kevin Cronin, this album doesn't really sound like anything most folks will associate with REO of the late 70's and 80's, when they were putting out stellar hits like "Take It On The Run", "Keep On Loving You", "In My Dreams" and "I Can't Fight This Feeling".

ReO's Best
Their music was inovative, unique, rocked like crazy and was definitly not top forty schlock! Kevin Cronin was the driving force behind their decline into comercialized blandness, Cronin is responsible for some of the worst music ever written i. REO Speedwagon was in the early seventies one of the best bands around. e. High Infidelity! This album is thankfully poles apart from that peice of expelitive!.

The Mike Murphy period wasn't really ALL that bad...
Sure, Kevin was the more commercial singer, but his voice gets on my nerves sometimes. Call me crazy, but I actually quite LIKE the "different" REO with this lead singer-but that's just me. My favorite album from the Mike Murphy period is "Lost In A Dream"-IMO.

Ridin the Storm out
I was disappointed it only had one or two songs on it that I liked.

REO Speedwagon - 'Riding The Storm Out' (Sony)
As I listened to this CD reissue, tunes I thought were so-so are the title cut "Riding The Storm Out", "Find Me A Fortune", "It's Everywhere" and their ballad "Without Expression". Originally released in 1974, looks to be the arena rock band's third album. Guess this lp was put out before frontman / vocalist Kevin Cronin had joined the ranks. Duh! I'm really not all that aware of who's WHO and what's what with this 'jock rock' classic rock act. Still haven't caught them live in concert, but I will someday. Only name of this CD's line-up I did recognize was guitarist Gary Richrath. Do check it out.
