FINALLY!!!I have been looking for this disc in local cd stores for easily 15+ years. . they have all their other stuff, but this one eluded me. . . this is the most underappreciated REO album ever. . . and I really can't figure out why! The songs ROCK! Nothing from this disc ever makes it onto 'greatest hits' comps except 'Only The Strong Survive,' and maybe 'Back On The Road Again. ' Shameful. . . 'Heavy On Your Love' and 'Drop It' are just begging to be played at full volume, and remain 2 of my favorite RSW songs ever. . . I normally don't like ordering things on-line, but I just had to in this case. . . the time it took to get my order was a heck of a lot faster than I thought, and the disc arrived in pristine condition. This is a great disc, and thanks to Amazon for great service. And, if anyone actually reads these reviews, I have a band to suggest to you if you love REO - check out Firetown, especially their 'The Good Life' cd. Well, gotta go and crank up 'Meet Me On The Mountain'.
Living on the Edge
The nine cuts on the ninth release of the group clocks in at 34:24 and includes a cover of Chuck Berry's classic, Rock & Roll Music. With two selections - Back On The Road Again and Only The Strong Survive - that became signature numbers for the band, this July 1979 release solidified them as a mainstay on the arena rock schedule. Drifting back to the past with a more hard rock sound, the band's tour to support the album included the songs being played in order, note-for-note.
Known more for the live performances, REO Speedwagon comes very close in capturing that energy in arguably their best studio album. .
Great album, bad conversion
A great rocker. This is REO's best album. The song Easy Money is one of the greatest unknown songs that I know of.
Notice I said Album though, because I must warn you that the CD is a bad conversion. I really hope that someone remasters it. I noticed that on my cd that some of the guitars were hard to here and some seemed to be missing all together. So I played it in a different player with headphones and discovered that about a third of the way through that the left track was kicking out. So, thinking that I had a bad copy, i ordered another and was bummed to find the same problem.
I cant praise the album enough, BUT if you know this album you will really notice the missing sounds.
Undiscovered Treasure
Other than 'I Need You Tonight' from Cronin (the start of his knack for writing the top 40 hit) this is a great and very under-rated album that not too many have stumbled upon. I had been listening to REO for just a little while (You Can Tune a Piano and Live, You Get What You Play) when this release came out. Fans really picked up on REO with their Hi-Infidelity release. I love this album because it still brings you the REO sound from their previous albums and maybe even a little bit heavier. This is when Cronin sounds his best and really seems the right fit for the band after replacing Luttrell way back after their first album and then replacing Murphy(after their third) for their Live album. For me this album just sticks out like a sore thumb because its so different from all their next releases. This never really got much airplay on the radio that I can remember, but lots of play on the turntable. From this point on REO never looked back to their early days and that sound they created. Instead Cronin led the charge into top 40 stardom and, I guess, there wasn't any turning back because if they did who would buy it. Unfortunately, fans fell in love with Cronin and his ballads much to the early fans dismay. Pick this cd up today. A great rocker.
A great rock and roll albun
I love to crank this cd (I have upgraded from the album) in my car-- even though my kids think I am a dork-- still great listening after all these years. I love this album--this is a great album to get if you like heavy rock.
