Turn Up The Heat
Again, it may not be his best & you may prefer other discs he's recorded over this one, but the fact remains that The Rev. "Space Heater" is Horton Heat's 5th studio album & second/last for Interscope Records. just NEVER puts out a bad album.

His 5th release has another round of 16 stellar songs. There's at least 1 instrumental where Mr. Heath shows off his chops. 2 songs are at least partly sung in Espanol. And you knew he was gonna hit ya with a couple of tongue-in-cheek songs. "Lie Detector," "Revolution Under Foot" & "Texas Rock-A-Billy Rebel" are keepers. "Mi Amor" and "Cinco De Mayo" are the two tracks delivered in Spanish. While "Jimbo Song" and "Baby I'm Drunk" are more than just fillers. They're a bit of a respite from The Reverend's super-fast psychobilly fret work & damn funny as well.

Long-time fans will want to have this in their collections, along w/ ALL of his other recordings. Newbies may be better off picking up one of his slightly better efforts. But no one who buys this is gonna have to head home feeling ripped off & pissed off. Jim Heath & Co. always make purchasing their albums worth the price of admission.

HELLBILLY DELUXE
The RHH cover looks like a klass-sick kitschy B-movie scene, complete with shreiking BETTY PAGE-like babe in distress, which is no doubt the point of SPACE HEATER. . tongue in cheek fun funneled through hopped up bop. COUCH SURFIN' starts with a classic retro BATMAN riff, the instrumentals are succulent slices of surfabilly, and song titles like BABY I'M DRUNK, STARLIGHT LOUNGE, and TEXAS ROCKABILLY REBEL give a clear indication of the retro roots rock vortex where REVEREND HORTON HEAT hangs its twangin'/bangin' hat. These three cool cats pummel shards of THE RAMONES, SOUTHERN CULTURE ON THE SKIDS, BRIAN SETZER, ELVIS PRESLEY, THE CRAMPS and DICK DALE into their very own charismatic slab o' mince-meat musicology.

I can't sum it up any better than this soundbite:
"Turn up the bass. . . turn up the treble. . . TEXAS ROCK-A-BILLY REBEL. . . "

RATING: FOUR GEAR SHIFT KNOBS .

Not a good example of the Rev

I love the first three albums, great melodys, great guitar playing. This album misses it totally for me. This is more like some kind of bar chord punk. I don't mind a band changing up but this is a step down. The Rev. is known for great guitar playing, this album doesn't feature that at all.

I dont care if its different. This cd rox!
The guitar and bass is still solid. This cd has an awesome groove to it. This release is more sarcastic and still, but it rocks hard too. "Lie Detector" is one of my favs from the Rev'. Buy this cd if you like Horton Heat but dont own it. Just buy it on a whim b/c this cd is killer.

One Of His Best
It breaks a bit of a mold for the Rev. I really like the sound of this record. and his band. "Lie Detector" should be cranked up as loud as possible.
