Lucky Seven by Rev. Horton Heat It has a great mix of psychbilly and traditional roots-rock rockabilly that will get you stomping along and humming your favorite tunes. This one of the groups best albums. I highly recommend that if you have a love for rockabilly, psychobilly or just great music that you pick up this album. And Remember you have a friend in Jimbo! .
Sermonize!
"Lucky 7" is Reverend Horton Heat's, you guessed it, 7th record. He's back! Time for your confession. And you better believe him when he tells you to drop to your knees and repent because he delivers again with fourteen ferocious trax.
Fire-ball songs like "Loco Gringos Like A Party," "Like A Rocket" & "Galaxy 500" will make your insides burn. Humorous tunes like "Sermon on the Jimbo" and "You've Got A Friend In Jimbo" will make you smile while sippin' on your gin & tonic. There's also a # of mid-tempo songs that show a growing level of maturity in some of The Rev's songs' subject matter. Not a bad thing at all. He performs them well. Once again, he plays the guitar and sings like his feet are on fire, his woman has just left him & he's all outta gin. 7 is certainly a lucky # for Jim Heath. So go find this Artemis Records release and throw yourself a party. It'll give you yet another excuse to play this cd all night long.
Keeps the adrenaline running high
This comes close to Smoke 'Em in style. Another highly charged effort from the Rev and Co. Tempos remain in the red song to song, giving a feel I usually experience at their shows.
And of course, the lyrics are a hoot, trademark for these guys.
Definitely recommended.
Probably their rocking best
It has hard rocking numbers like "Loco Gringos" and ". This is pretty much a perfect album. . Big Blue Car" and then closes with some of the Rev's most comedic material ever about our beloved Jimbo (from Deer Park Texas Land). I saw them tour this one and they hit it hard in concert because there were so many hard songs from it. Great CD from a Great Live Band. See them in concert if you get a chance.
The Reverend at his best form
He's at his best form here, and yes, if you're a guy and gone through a bad break up, songs like Galaxy 500 will probably speak to you very LOUDLY. For years, the Reverend Horton Heat has put out some of the best drugs, sex, and rock-n-roll music. I suppose it might speak to the ladies too, but this is definitely testosterone fueled music.
While the music really cooks and the Reverend has a great voice for the material, it's the genuine lyrics that really give this CD an extra dimension. Sure, the Reverend Horton Heat has never been one to engage into deep philosophical discussions, but he does delve into the pain and the thrills that make life worth living. And in a simple, direct way many of us can relate to. The guy certainly has a lot of heart, and I just love the Texas twang he puts on everything.
I suppose if it didn't end with a bunch of filler, it wouldn't be a Horton Heat CD but the ending filler is even good for a chuckle or two.
