100% Cliff!
If I hadn't heard him sing some of the songs in his concert DVDs - the rocking "What Car" and "Thousand Miles To Go" and the hauntingly beautiful "I Cannot Give You My Love" and "For Life" - I wouldn't have been enticed to buy this CD despite the rave reviews I'd read. I must admit that I'm a bit stuck in the past, partial to old Cliff Richard songs. But after listening to the entire CD, I'm proud of what Cliff has done to stay on top in this highly competitive field. Indeed he's as "current as today's newspapers," as the announcer in his Time Machine concert declared and is the ultimate pop star, his 100% effort very much reflected in his every recording. Something went wrong
First let me say that this is a good album. . not Cliff's best but certainly worthy of honorable mention. Some of the song choices are wierd. . . . . "How did she get here" is a stock country rock song with just a smattering of profanity . . . . . O. K. there's a 'damn' but listen to it and tell me that he didn't leave out a ' hell' in there somehwere. . . as in how the hell did she get here. . .
Contrast that with "Faithful One" which is a wonderful worship song.
So what's my beef?
For as little as this record was promoted. . . . if you're gonna record in Nashville and do mainly stock Nashville/ Americana songs (What Car? is an inspired choice by the way. . !). . . . why not promote it in the US? there was a missed opportunity if ever there was one. Secondly if you are going to enlist producers such as Tommy Sims and Michael Omartian, why not do a contemporary Christian pop/worship album and then promote it in the gospel market. Cliff sings better than most of the artists out there and with songwriters like his fave Chris Eaton still around - this could have been a killer sounding disc with MEANING!
Having said all that. . . there is plenty here to like and Cliff on an off day is better than most people trying to reach a peak.

somethings going on and it is
. This is one of the best albums that he has put out in a long time theres rock pop and country on this its great its just ashame that he doesnt get more radio time here in the states.

Wonderful!
At first I was nostalgic for the old stuff (Devil Woman, We Don't Talk Anymore, etc. I recently "stumbled" onto Cliff Richard again (was a fan in the 80s), not realizing what an icon he's been/still is everywhere in the world, except the US! I've since been buying everything I can get my hands on, including this, his latest CD. ), then I really gave this one a listen. Each time I play this CD (which is everyday in the car), I have a new favorite. . . "I Will Not Be a Mistake," "Simplicity," "I Cannot Give You My Love," "The Day That I Stop Loving You," "I Don't Wanna Lose You. " "What Car" is a blast, as is "Thousand Miles to Go"! I agree with one reviewer that Cliff isn't being marketed properly, if at all, here in the US. He could easily be in the Top 40, Country, and even Smooth Jazz markets with the mix of songs on this CD! I'm just thankful Amazon is selling it!.

Something IS going on
I hadn't heard Sir Cliff since Xanadu, but I wasn't disappointed by his performances. I bought this because I was Gibb jonesing. I'm not too much of a country fan, but he definitely has mastered that genre. Get the single for How Many Sleeps, also. All in all, it's a great set.
