Excellent reissue, both in sound and editorial content The collaboration with Barry Gibb yielded 10 top-notch tracks, any of which could have been chart hits. First and foremost, this is Kenny's finest overall album as far as I'm concerned. This European reissue is vastly superior to the original (and now out-of-print) RCA CD pressed first in Japan and then later in the U. S. for U. S. distribution. This remaster succeeds in bringing new vitality to the sound without the unnecessary loudness that's inherent in so many modern remastering jobs. I don't think "Islands in the Stream" and "This Woman" have ever sounded better. There's rich, resonant bass and clear treble, with Gibb's background vocals in crystalline presence while never detracting from Kenny's amazing baritone. To me this sounds like high-quality vinyl, minus surface noise.
Also present in the liner notes is a nice editorial piece on Kenny's and Barry's careers and how they crossed paths to create the album. Full lyrics, chart information, and detailed information about musicians is also included. This is a first-class reissue.
Even if you own the previous RCA compact disc, snatch this up while it's still available. I'm even buying a second copy!
And in the "for what it's worth" category, Kenny Rogers is now my neighbor, having recently built himself a new house on a small estate in rural North Georgia.
Underappreciated album! - Is remaster worth it???
I have to agree with most of the reviews here. . excellent songwriting and production make a great record here. But then again, I'd never expect less when under the guidance of the Barry Gibb (add to that, the contributions of his brothers and fellow Bee Gees Robin & Maurice).
I actually own the original CD issue of this album. . . I was wondering if anyone here who owns this remastered edition also own the original and can tell there's a sonic difference in quality?? Thanks in advance!.
ALUCINANTE

"A Marriage Made in Heaven"
He had noticed the great success that both Barbra Striesand and Dionne Warwick had had with Bee Gee written and Barry Gibb produced albums("Guilty"-Streisand), "Heartbreaker"(Warwick). In late 1982 Kenny Rogers was about to sign a major record deal with RCA records and was in need of a great first album with the company. He, consequently tapped Barry Gibb to produce his first RCA album It was to go on and become the biggest commerical album of Roger's career selling over 4 million copies. It also showed that the Bee Gees could write and produce music that had a Pop/Country flavor. The biggest single from the album was the mega hit: "Islands in the Stream" a duet with Dolly Parton. It rocketed to the top of both the Pop and country charts and became according to RCA the biggest selling single in their history(this included all of Elvis Preseley's singles). But the album had much more to it. There are s few great ballads especially a lush, beautiful, "You and I" with Barry doing backing vocals sounding abit like the early Phil Spector from the late '50's. It is simply a lush, lovely ballard. Other ballads include " I Will Always Love You" and the title track "Eyes that See in the Dark". For country fans there was also much to cheer about, such as "Buried Treasure", "Evening Star", and "MidSummer Nights". The collaboration turned out to be great for both Rogers and the Bee Gees. It gave Rogers the best album of his career and gave the Gibb Brothers the chance to take a little time off from recording of their own songs to enhance the career of others. Little wonder why they would be elected to the "Song Writers Hall of Fame" in 1993 before their election to the Rock and Roll of Fame in 1997. A true gem. Paul Hanna .
