Censored! Why not just slap a parental advisory sticker on it. I can't believe they released a censored version of this underrated classic stones album - pathetic. The stones should be ashamed of themselves!.
Remaster fix a flat holds for a few more miles
Gus Dudgeon, Elton's John classic era producer tried to record Elton's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" there once, only to give up and go home. Let's be clear about one thing: even at this day and age no one has figured out how to help poor old GHS's pitiful sound quality all that much and for good reason; it has to do with the original recording studio. He claimed the the studio sounded like '10,000 japaense radios' and he went on to say that he didn't know how the Stones ever got GHS out of there. Even on this attempted remaster the sound is muddy and lacks any sort of 'pop' in the snare or 'kick' in the bass drums because of this.
One good thing though - the hiss is all gone, and that really helps tracks like "Angie" and "Can You Hear The music"; the uncovered percussive acoustic guitar now drives "Heartbreaker" to nice effect. What saves this album is the great songs, no matter how cluddery things get at times. This is probably as good as it can ever sound.
OH COME ON!
the single version of Star Star is what's on here. . I know it sounds stupid with 2 things going on at once but the rest of the album and sound quality make up for this. Everysong on here has a new life with this amazing remaster. No more tape hiss or "grainy" sound from the 94 remaster. I really don't see what ya are complaining about. .
Ignore This Censored Re-Issue
One can assume that the censorship resulted from an effort to comply with Wal-Mart's language policies (WM is the USA's #1 music retailer). I recommend against buying this album because the final track, Star Star, has been censored and neutered from it's original version. I am a huge fan of the Rolling Stones, and do not blame them in the least; but I'm also a huge fan of Free Speech and Artistic Freedom. Please do not support censorship.
SHOCKING. GET THE OLD ONE.
Why bother? Only nostalgia freaks and Stones fanatics are gonna buy this album anyway, and they're hardly gonna be bothered by what used to be there. What's been done to 'Star Star' represents the worst example of Stones self-censorship since Jagger sang 'Let's Spend Some TIME Together' on TV. 'Soup' is certainly their weakest LP. There are some excellent songs on it, but the rubbish makes it hard listening from beginning to end. Such is their high strike rate that no other Stones album provides this kind of frustrating experience. And I seriously question the objectivity of the reviewers who're claiming a 'superb' job has been done on this reissue. Go and listen to the 1994 remaster; even with this weak material, the album SOUNDED better than this version. Why are The Stones treating their fans like this? Why won't they release a (proper) rarities set instead? .
