superlative is just too weak a word for what I'm hearing...
She is able to carry a tune from just about any genre of music; and I'm extremely impressed with all her accomplishments. Linda Ronstadt is truly one of the best female vocalists of the twentieth century. This CD entitled Linda Ronstadt: Greatest Hits has quite a few of her best hits here although a single CD could never be enough to hold all her hits. I'm glad there's at least a volume two to this set! The quality of the sound is very, very good and I like the artwork even if it's relatively standard for this CD series.

The CD starts off with Linda singing her big, big hit entitled "You're No Good. " "You're No Good" is an auspicious beginning for this CD; it features Linda Ronstadt squarely front and center--right where she belongs! This rock tune benefits from a solid guitar arrangement and the percussion enhances the music very well. Linda sings this well; in fact she pulls it off without a hitch and that's grand. "Silver Threads And Golden Needles" is very much a country tune that Linda aces as effortlessly as if it were just breathing; but of course we know it really wasn't all that easy. Linda's talents always carried her through. In addition, I love the poignant "Desperado. " I first heard "Desperado" performed by The Eagles; but when Linda Ronstadt sings this she really does this one up right! "Desperado" is clearly a major highlight of this album and Linda makes it all her own with her impeccable sense of timing.

"Love Is A Rose" is very strong; and listen for "That'll Be The Day. " "That'll Be The Day" got a lot of airplay back in its time; and it deserved every bit of the attention it got. We all listened to this on the jukeboxes and Linda bats this one straight out of the ballpark! Terrific! "Long, Long Time" has an excellent arrangement for the strings; and "When Will I Be Loved?" is another number I remember so very well. I could never forget Linda Ronstadt singing "When Will I Be Loved?" "When Will I Be Loved?" shines when Linda performs it faultlessly and you can really hear the emotion she pours into this tune. How's about that guitar work, too?

"(Love Is Like A) Heat Wave" features Linda at her best; she delivers this brilliantly and again I'm truly quite impressed. "(Love Is Like A) Heat Wave" rocks and it's still perfectly good for dancing even in our times. The backup vocalists harmonize very well, too. "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" gets a most sensitive treatment from the wonderful Linda Ronstadt; this songbird does this very well. The CD even ends strong with Linda Ronstadt performing "Tracks Of My Tears. " I can't remember where I first heard this tune but Linda's rendition is very special to say the least.

Linda Ronstadt is probably underrated even with the recognition she receives to this day. It's exceptionally rare that we have such a songbird in our midst; there's nothing Linda Ronstadt can't sing when she puts her mind to singing it. I highly recommend this for her fans; and it makes a great starter CD for people just discovering the magical sound of Linda Ronstadt.

Best Of Ronstadt up to 1976
This great album was one I had in 1976 on vinyl, and along with most teen-age boys of the time I had a major crush on the lovely Linda. Who could guess that a greatest hits album as good as this one would be way, way to early in a career. Recently, I saw it on CD and snatched it up.

In any case, this is a great collection of Ms. Ronstadt's Country and Country-Rock era; the cover of "Silver Threads" is probably my all time favorite country song, and "Love has no pride" is one of the most heart wrenching ballads ever recorded. Amazingly, even though these remain some of my all time favorites, Ronstadt just got better and better as a vocalist for three more decades.

So here's the deal, this is a best of the early career of one of the finest female vocalist to ever be recorded, and for the price, you can't beat it!

Fine cd
Volume I is just as good. I've had Volume II for years. I
don't know why I waited so long to get it. .

Linda Ronstant
She can sing anything. I love her music. I have her old albums (remember LPs?). The CDs are even better.

Rondstadt CD - Greatest HIts

It was great back then, and it's still great. I bought this CD because my cassette finally wore out.
