What a treat! As Dolly Parton was quoted saying in the Country Music Hall of Fame, Linda Ronstadt is one of the 3 top singers. I love this album - the style, the music, and of course, Linda. Linda can sing anything!.
Let us bring up the average to a deserved five...
So I just want to add that, years ago, when I bought these on LP it opened my ears anew to these songs in several appreciative ways. Everything that I think about this ear opener has been said before by others here. Proof is that when I hear other versions, these start ringing in my ears. 5-stars all the way.

Round midnight
Linda's voice is as smooth as silk, and Nelson Riddle's arrangements are wonderful!. This is some of the most beautiful music ever recorded.
the outstanding artistry of Linda Ronstadt and Nelson Riddle together
Together these two fine artists weave a magical spell on this two CD set; and there's not a dud in the bunch here! The quality of the sound is excellent and I like that artwork, too. 'Round Midnight is the result of a brilliant collaboration between Nelson Riddle and Linda Ronstadt.
The first CD starts with Linda singing "What's New?" "This track features her vocals squarely front and center while Nelson Riddle's arrangement fits in perfectly with her vocalizing. Linda's voice is as clear as a bell and that's grand. I'm very impressed! "I've Got a Crush on You" shines every bit as bright; Linda handles this with panache and Riddle's arrangement for the piano is very elegant indeed. "Crazy He Calls Me" has Linda handling complex tempo and key changes like the pro she truly is and always will be! Nelson's music again really enhances the ballad all the more--great! "Someone to Watch over Me" stuns me with its beauty; Linda sings some rarely heard opening lyrics and when she hoes into the main portion of this number it really takes flight! Listen also for a great horn solo on "I Don't Stand a Ghost of a Chance with You. "
"What'll I Do?" gets the royal treatment from Linda Ronstadt and Nelson Riddle; this timeless song sparkles when they tackle it--and they make it all seem just so easy. Linda's talent always carries her through; and Nelson Riddle's music is sublime to say the least! "Lover Man" is also very well done. "When I Fall in Love" sounds new and fresh when Linda delivers it with panache; and of course Nelson Riddle musical arrangement works wonders for this ballad.
"Mean to Me" is very moving and poignant; this tugs at my heartstrings. "I'm a Fool to Want You" is another stunner; Linda performs this with all the grace of a seasoned chanteuse and I love every minute of it. How's about that brass, too? "You Took Advantage of Me" gets a very spirited arrangement; and I really like "Can't We Be Friends?" Terrific! "Falling in Love Again" uses the percussion very well; Nelson Riddle's musical arrangement is flawless and it works so well with Linda's singing. "Lush Life" is another tune that is quite sophisticated; and there's yet another gem in "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered. " "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered" uses the strings well and Linda never skips a beat. "But Not for Me" is quite beautiful; this tune is easily a major highlight of this two CD set and just one listen will prove it to you!
"My Funny Valentine" is very elegant; and "(I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons" charms me with its natural beauty. Nelson Riddle's musical arrangement is at its usual best while Linda sings to perfection--and beyond! I love the piano on "Straighten up and Fly Right; and the second CD ends very well with Linda Ronstadt performing the title track, "'Round Midnight" with an arrangement by Nelson Riddle that leaves me wanting more!
Linda Ronstadt and Nelson Riddle obviously worked very well together; and this is a must-have for their fans. In addition, people who enjoy classic pop vocals, love songs and even jazzy pop vocals that swing will cherish this two CD set for years to come.

'Round Midnight
It arrived promptly and in good condition. This was purchased for my husband's day care group and as far as I know they are pleased with the cd as background music.
