15 years later...still weak
Boy was I disappointed. After the enjoying the phenomenal 'Cry Like A Rainstrom' I eagerly purchased 'Winter Light' when it was released in 1993. I put it away for 15 years and never bothered listening to it again. I was thumbing through my library and thought I give it a second chance. I'm amazed at the glowing reviews of this album.
I found it to be mediocre at best and that's better than my initial impression of it 15 years earlier.

I'll be honest I'm not a fan of Linda's 'experimental' phases. Whether it's American Standards, Traditional Mexican, or Salsa music I prefer her traditional pop/folk/rock/country sound. I also don't care much for 'New Age' music unless I'm experiencing an unexplicable bout of insommnia. With that said. . . here we have an album that seems to want to cover way too many bases in one record. 'Heartbeats Accelerate'& 'Winter Light' are the Enya-like songs here while 'Too Soon To Tell' is the american standard and 'Adonde Voy' is just another bothersome mexican song.

The rest of the seven songs range from medicore('Do What You Gotta Do')to good pop('Anyone Who Had A Heart'). The highlight here for me is the remake of Emmylou Harris's 'A River For Him', Simply gorgeous.

Don't get me wrong this is not a bad album, it's just not as good as I hoped. For the price of a penny it's hard not to recommend it, but get it now before it's out of print and used sellers are asking $30-$50 for it.

Underrated at 5 stars
"Cry Like a Rainstorm. . " has some better songs, but "Winter Light" may be the better album.
I enjoy every track. And her voice is in very top form.

"Winter Light" is really unfairly underrated.

Another gem from Linda!
Winter Light is one of my favorite Linda cd's! I feel her voice is at it's purest on this cd, she does a great with the covers, as always with Linda this is a diverse cd, like most of the reviews this is an underrated gem! .

Veru emotional
Moerover, there are songs that show kinds of nostalgia. The Cd is very emotional and the words of each song give messages about the fellow man and the love that people feels for others. For instance, " Herabeits Accelerating" express the love of waiting someone who is absent. Finally, the " Winter Light" song was part of the movie " The secret garden" where express the feeling for the lovely individual.

Great great!!!
This cd is such a winner. . . . . noone can do some of these oldies the way Linda can! Her voice is so captivating and emotional. . . . . I just love it!!!! No bad tracks at all. . . . . the funny thing is. . . . . look at the track listing on the back of the cd. . . . . . it lists tracks 1-12 when there are only 11 songs. . . . . it is because it goes from 7-9 on the listing. . . . . . . . the number 8 was left out. . . . . hehehe. . . . just found that amusing considering that is an editor's job! ENJOY!.
